Why so much dislike for tan/Brown leather interiors?
Discussion
I've always had a strong preference for beige/tan interiors, even if they are quite sensitive to context. I associate beige with luxury, tan with sportiness. Tan in a big Volvo or S-class seems misplaced, likewise a hearing aid beige interior in a classic Alfa or Ferrari doesn't seem quite right. GTs can swing both ways.
Used to hate black interiors with a passion, couldn't think of anything more drab or unimaginative, until I sat in a W124 with black leather and zebrano and it suddenly made a lot of sense. I still think black interiors are mostly gash but I'm open to the idea that they do sometimes work very, very well.
In general I think modern cars are deeply boring. Monochrome as far as the eye can see... would like to see more blue over deep burgundy or yellow over some funky shade of green, really anything other than the current obsession of dishwasher white over dark-as-the-devils-hole black. Then again, I'm not sure the majority of modern designs could carry off such combinations very well.
Edited to add: Bit OT, but the other thing I hate about modern car interiors is the incessant use of carbon and piano black. It's everywhere, and almost always looks completely and utterly st.

My last C class had a light tan interior that was miles better than the earlier c class I had with a black interior.
Even though the car was the same model (both w202) the car with the tan interior seemed to be a lot bigger inside & was a more pleasant place to be.
I did have some reservations to the interior getting dirty with the kids/dog but it wasn't a issue.
My current classic car has a tan interior which I don't mind at all but there is a lot of hatred for the lighter interior colours within the car club with most people preferring black interiors.
My current everyday car has a black interior which suits it so the colour of interior is very much down to if the design of the interior suits a lighter colour or not.

Had tan on a Porsche a couple of years back, looked good to me but the dealer mentioned the color combo had never been ordered before.
The Brits have little imagination, most of the Porsche's in the showroom are all black interiors.
That's lovely....... The Brits have little imagination, most of the Porsche's in the showroom are all black interiors.
Your right about UK buyers having little imagination in general, as they are fixated on the 'think of the resale' mantra spiel given by dealer staff, who also in my experience have zero imagination.

Personally I can't stand a black interior, so drab and dull. It makes it feel tiny as well.
For me a light interior plus a sunroof is the winner. That includes the almost-white seats that JLR/Volvo/Mercedes etc are now doing.

That looks spot on to me too. All black including a black headlining & such a low roof line would feel quite oppressive from looking at that image. The Brits have little imagination, most of the Porsche's in the showroom are all black interiors.

As someone who works in a car dealership and has worked in the industry for the past 7 years I can safely say that I don’t know of anyone who mentions resale to customers when ordering their car, not really of our concern.Your right about UK buyers having little imagination in general, as they are fixated on the 'think of the resale' mantra spiel given by dealer staff, who also in my experience have zero imagination.
Don’t get me wrong, their is a hint of boring in staffs ideas on what looks good but it’s primarily the customers just wanting a black interior with a grey exterior with very little deviation!
