Still have a problem with people constantly comparing the 325ti's looks to a coupe or even a saloon for that matter, its a meaningless comparision as this is a hatchback.. its not a looker overall but few hatchbacks are especially when comparing to coupes!

It held its own against the other offerings at the time imo.

No that was on the E36 Compact. The E46 Compact had the same multilink rear as all other E46 variants, but with a bit more spring rate all round, hence the Compact being the sportiest drive in the range.
Got the quicker rack before the rest of the range

Thicker ARBs at front than coupe too

No exhaust flap valve either

One of those itches I wish I'd scratched. Haven't seen one for yonks, in any engine size.
Would be great fun for hooning this time of year.
Wonder if the alleged increased plod activity in Wales has anything to do with the upcoming removal of the bridge tolls? - Nearly pays for an extra gallon of v-max for the marauding visitor to cause mayhem.

Maybe they couldnt afford a three series, not sure why it would matter what someone could afford ?

Could say that about any car, buys a Veyron, obviously couldnt run to a new Chiron, Peasant !

Underneath though it was a great drivers car and truth be told I grew to love it’s quirky looks. There have never been a great deal of RWD sporting hatches . Shame really.
Porsche should make a RWD Macan. Although that would still be heavy and big

I nearly bought one of these with a 330d lump swapped in as a cheap(ish) winter runabout. Price was too low and seller was clearly shiftier than a 10-speed auto box so I walked but a [mapped] 320td is looking really appealing also, as long as it's a 6-speed.

These were £7k more than a civic type R at the time!

Much like a 944 turbo cost more than a few of the 911 models - yet still considered a poor mans Porsche.

I just sold mine.

Positives include super smooth engine, negatives are the understeery balance and a lot of friction in the steering.

Didn’t really find it a fun car. Give me an E30 or E36 318is anytime.

Friction in the steering would imply something wrong with it.
Same with understeery balance, they're supposed to be pretty neutral when everything is as it should be, a slight tendency to understeer, but getting on the throttle sooner will fix that.
The versions with the sport suspension will be more fun to drive by defailt, slightly bigger ARBs and stiffer.

All 325ti's SE or Sport have sports suspension/thicker ARB/purple tag rack. Though worth pointing out the vast majority of these cars are still on their original suspension and will be tired. They can be a pretty enjoyable steer but refreshing the suspension and simple mods like CDV delete are essential to experience them properly.

They understeer on the standard sport tyre sizes. They drive much better with a square setup and no need for a 245 wide rear with 192bhp IMO. The SE models have 205/55 16" all round so I fitted that size to my sport and it is so much more fun to drive.

rolleyes That was pretty moronic when these were new, and properly retarded now that old E46s are cheap as chips.

In fact you said some time back that you loved your Vectra because you weren't concerned about image rolleyesrolleyes

I was talking looks only as I have seen a few from the "stance scene".

Obviously mine would be on some tasteful 16/17s

I picked one up last year for about £1500 with the idea of doing track days in it. I've only managed a few this year but it's been fantastic, sounds decent & is really reliable. I thought it might be a bit snappy with the oversteer but it's really well balanced, loads of grip and really predictable throwing it about. The last track day at Silverstone we had three of us using it all day and the only issue was the brakes dying a death.

Mines got some cheapo coilovers and a square 17" setup at the moment although I have some plans for next year.

Cracking value for money IMO. Decent road manners too if you are wanting to daily it.

I considered one but IIRC

They are hardy any shorter / lighter than an E46

Like the E46, suffer with throttle delay.

The E36 compact had the oversteery rear axle set up from the E30 so was the enthusiasts choice but only came as a 318 although many have been converted to 2.5 / 2.8 engines
