RE: Lamborghini Urus: Dune buggy
Discussion
So, a £200k Lambo SUV is playing to the "mass market". Right.....
Also - I'm willing to bet my house that engineering and design work that has gone into the Lambo FROM ITS BASE (using the same VAG platform) but having to design the body, brakes, suspension, interior, engine/gearbox tune/mapping, aerodynamics etc will be greater than the changes Jeep had to make to get that engine into that car.
It seems people think that all VAG did was take a Toureg, change the body and hey presto, you have a Urus....

I get why it exists and who it's for and I'm sure it's probably very good at what it does. But, it's still striking that nowadays, if I needed a 4x4 and wanted the most frothing lunatic available, money no object, on paper it looks to me like I should drive straight past the local Lambo dealership and go buy a Jeep GC Trackhawk.
Why?Is it because it is hideous? Is it because it is brash and uncouth? Is it because it would look ridiculous in a Supermarket Car Park? Is it because it embodies the "look how RICH I am" mentality of our age?
If I see a nice car, a car that I will never (short of a major lottery win) be able to afford, a Porsche or an Aston perhaps, I will admire it and if I happen upon the owner/driver opine as such to them. If I see one of these, I would try not to be caught looking at the thing and would actively avoid the owner.
Yes, you can argue that choice and taste are subjective and that it sells to its market. For me the one positive that I can think of is that it is like a very expensive "COCKWOMBLE" flag and aids identification of such folk.
How ironic that you would be such a shallow person because you would believe that anyone who drives an Urus could be such a shallow person.
Bonkers.

You think they didn't? E65Ross said:

Relative to a Hurracan or an Aventador? Absolutely. Perhaps I was wrong to call it the mass market, but this car was very obviously made to appeal to a much wider group of people looking for something softer and easier to live with than Lamborghini's other models. And like I say, it sounds like they've done a very good job of it and fair play to them.Edited by E65Ross on Thursday 27th December 19:59
But it's also the complete opposite of the approach taken by Jeep which, to my mind, makes the Trackhawk cooler. It just does.

Seen a few of these on the roads now. Feels strange not getting all uppity and excited about seeing a lambo roll past.
Same with all the 'exotic' SUVs, it's just another take on a Range Rover, but less practical.
But what if someone doesn't need something as practical as a range rover, wants something sportier to drive and is less ubiquitous than a range rover? Same with all the 'exotic' SUVs, it's just another take on a Range Rover, but less practical.

Nothing from the "usual" German or American brands is unique enough for those wanting exclusivity, Ferrari make the GTC I guess, McLaren don't make anything, all the others which are large enough to carry decent amounts of luggage (ie bigger than a saloon) and carry 4 adults are either not as sporty, or not as exclusive, save perhaps the GTC. Nothing Aston Martin makes is practical compared to this either.
There is not really a huge amount on the market filling this niche to be honest, and if it sells, then who are we to give a flying fk?

There you go...exactly right, and luckily I stopped bothering about what other people think, a long time ago.Edited by footsoldier on Saturday 29th December 07:37
