FWIW the gen1 clubsport was a fairly poor GT4 car especially out of the box. Way down on power and much to heavy to be even vaguely competitive against a 570S or a Ginetta.
Isn't that more a failure of BoP though? The 981 clubsport was still made to carry extra ballast in most cases afaik. The 570 gt4 was also made to carry a good bit over 100kg of ballast (plus had significant power restrictions). I don't believe the gt4 cs would have been any heavier than the Mclaren for example in race spec. One has to note, as far as technical improvements are concerned, the main weakness of the gen 1 car (rear suspension strut design) still remains in this car. Perhaps Porsche simply mean to up their effort in BoP lobbying this time round by supplying a greater number of entries to get a more favourable adjustment.

Poo?Porsche motorsport - now champions at polishing turds. To good effect, I might add.
The new car will be faster than $h!t off a shovel.
Also shows people will buy any $h!t with a Porsche badge.
I'm here all week folks.

It's also worth mentioning that it's torque that does the work in acceleration ...
A more powerful engine with the top-end restricted will be much more useful in the mid-range than a maxed-out engine with the same max power at the top ... and therefore much less power in the mid-range.
Question: It's an inexpensive process to fit Manthey suspension arms and KW 3 way Clubsport dampers to Manthey spec ... the equivalent of 3.8 X51 performance is already available off the shelf ... and the earlier GT4 gearboxes have proven to be completely resistant to the failures that have affected some later gearboxes (which might therefore limit the desire to make power upgrades to these later cars) ...... I wonder why that change was made to the gearbox ??
Were I to upgrade the engine of my GT4 (an early one as it happens) ... my only real concern would be trackdays noise ... I would want a quiet exhaust !!
P.S. And I won't have to plead with my dealer for an allocation ... how nice.

Not sure that BOP was/is that unfavorable to the Cayman, it's the easiest excuse in the book. For a competitive GT4 car it is overweight and/or underpowered. A Cayman with the 4.0L GT3 motor would be far more on the money for GT4 racing.
If the 981 clubsport was already overweight and/or underpowered why were they still being given even more weight as ballast? The whole point of BoP in each class is to allow very different cars to compete on a relatively even basis at a certain price point after all - the big variables are supposed to be fuel/tyre wear/drivability rather than absolute pace. turning up with a lighter/more powerful/more expensively developed car would defeat the entire purpose of gt4 racing.isaldiri said:

More power than that and you’ll get spannerer by more ballast (a la 570S) and any less weight and you’ll get spannerer by power caps (a la KTM X-Bow).
There’s a very good reason things like the M4 and Merc GT GT4 have been competitive straight out the box....

Anyone know if the new GT4 will be available with PDK?
I hope not. If you want a PDK Porsche GT car just get the 991 GT3 or RS.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
