RE: Subaru Legacy Spec B: Spotted

Leggies are great indeed, its weird that most of the negative comments are from people who it seems for the most part have never driven one - its good that they are not so common and the 3 litre lump sounds fantastic also.
This is the same as mine, albeit a bit more expensive than a tracksuit and a few mars bars as suggested elsewhere - I dont think you can get as good a car for the price and they wont break your wallet aside from being on the thirsty side.

It definitely looks way nicer than the others, that’s for sure. Everything else the same?
eh, not really no - they are entirely different to the SpecB for one they are auto only- the SpecB has a manual option (the best by far) and also includes navigation and other toys as standard (dvd based on the later cars) 0-60 in the outback is ca 8.5s and it tops out at about 140mph, quite a bit off the SpecB, however they are still a great car and the increased height means they will plough terrain with aplomb.

Shame really as it looks decent. Slightly surprised as the Subaru expert you didn’t know what it was?
I know about Leggies but not outbacks, dont let the looks deceive you the SpecB is far more a drivers car and a different beast as summed up by this chapGibsonSG said:
I had a 3.0 Outback and wasn't that enamoured by it to be honest. I really wished I had the 3.0 R Spec B Legacy instead but it was a company car and the Spec B was just out of production with no UK stock.
As I recall the Outback had a slightly lower redline than the Spec B but for me the auto box was poor - the ratios seemed mis-matched to the engine's characteristics, so the first four gears seemed far too tall and fifth was a massive overdrive. Made for a nice cruiser but you had to drop to third to get any meaningful acceleration to stream past traffic in the usual motorway grind between 60 - 90. Plus, the higher ride height and softer suspension are not sporty - a lovely wafter but a different beast to the Spec B.
I'd had two Saab 9-5 Aero's before the Outback so it was a lovely change at first but eventually its appeal faded for me.

I have just been offered a facelift saloon 07 with 82k, sadly an auto. I'm considering buying it to squirrel away for a few years. Good ones of these have got to be on their ar5e price wise now?
manuals are more desirable and harder to get but autos are pretty good also, prices seem to fluctuate a bit but you should buy on condition and not price, a low price legacy could cost you more in the long run to get up to the standard you may expect and they do need pretty stringent servicing such as oil changes.yonex said:
How much better does the estate look. Nice.
Thanks for the comment.Outback 3.0r , lowered on B6's, and Spec b springs.
As for the fundermental difference between this and a Spec B.
Spec B has alloy suspension arms and billies, and no spacers between body and powertrain. It also has larger brakes.
They also come in manual, auto boxes are identical (5EAT).
Equipment level, identical.
