Yawn! It looks the same as every other 911, bar a few trims and lights

I really like this. Looks the nuts. Targa would be my choice when it gets released.

Quite. I think we all know the markbxtr type. There’s a lot of it about sadly for a supposed ‘petrol head’ forum.

I’ll look forward to the day a boxster disappears in front of me :;):

I love my cab even though I’m still on the waiting list for my sex change laugh
Agree, endless ridiculous comments like this. Often by people who drive a Fiat or 320d.

TVR were innovaters were they? I test drove many of their cars back in the day and that's not a word I would ever use to describe them. Smelling like glue and things falling off in your hand more like. Definitely good looking though

As for feeling like jelly?? I had a 991 TTS cab on the PEC day and it felt rock solid. I'll admit I'm a mediocre driver but I couldn't tell the difference between their cab and my own coupe TTS....but then I'm not a driving god.

Personally I wouldn't buy a cab as I don't like the restricted visibility when the roof is up. I was however given a Boxster as a courtesy car and that was the first time I spent some time in a cab; having the roof down is definitely a really nice feeling.

As I said cabs aren't really for me, but if I were in the market for one I can see why this would be at the top of the list. I wouldn't even consider a Boxster.

And why can't there be a 991 thread without people moaning about how much it costs? I'm going to walk into every estate agent in Knightsbridge and tell them that all their property for sale is too expensive and that I can buy a bigger property elsewhere for less money. I'm sure they'll give a crap.

Proportions are dreadful from that angle aren't they.

No prizes for guessing where the engine is hiding.
Bizarrely the 991 has a much prettier rear.
FYI - in the launch videos the porsche engineer does a walkthrough and explains that the increased slope is due to the re-working/enhancement of the intercooler placement and there is now one at the top of the engine bay.

I would say that Increased power with reliability and the particle filter weight/placement on the 992 came at a big price in terms of look of the rear-end.

Driving roof down adds a dimension to any car. I assume those with hate for this generally don’t care for convertibles? I think this looks great, as did the 991 cab.

The for the ladies comments are laughable. Driving a convertible has gone from niche, to high fashion, to naff since I’ve been driving- 30 years. Perhaps that bothers some.

Taking a new 911 cab on a road trip, assuming interesting roads, would be far more immersive for me than doing the same trip, trapped in an air conditioned metal box.
Immersive indeed. And fun at legal speeds unlike many GT cars. My wife has a 9974s cabriolet which we took to the Alps in June. Bloody fantastic and way more enjoyable than my GT3 I took a few years earlier.
However, you do need thick skin if you drive through towns and villages with the roof down (we didn't).

As for Boxsters? Great drive and close to half the price, but my wife thinks they are "girls' cars" and wouldn't be seen dead in one - not with the roof down anyway laugh

Id rather have a Targa
Why?

Just curious. Because I have a 991 cab, and I personally like that - roof up - it's the exact same shape as the coupe.

I love the look of the Targa (although finding it a bit of a pastiche the more I see around), but the wind noise they produce is terrible. You can drive the cab at 100mph and have a conversation, but you'd struggle at 40mph in a Targa.

Can't help but many people form opinions just based around hearsay and without any actual experience whatsoever.

Sorry to break it to people, but a nice spec 911 has easily been a £100k far for a while now.

This is a major issue with the targa. Hopefully improved with the 992.

I got cut up by a new 911 last month. Amazing looking machine, same as this! Had the urge for a Cayman...

I went straight into Audi and bought diesel TT and loving it.

£100k is OTT

More evidence of this cars GT credentials over being a true sports car.

Not sure if this is meant as a joke.......

  • You thought about buying a Cayman but bought instead a TT wobble
  • You're loving a diesel TT confused
  • 100k is OTT for a premium sports car rolleyes

laugh A TT diesel!!!
It has to be a joke... I’ve been the Audi TTS route that was ok at best. The Cayman is a proper sports car. A drivers car. A TT, a diesel TT, just isn’t.

Pushing £110k for a Porsche Carrera.

Hard to believe.
It wasn't that long ago that these were 70ish new.
What's caused the hike?
Inflation? My coupe was IIRC £77000 when new in 1999. According to the BoE that's over £126000 in today's money: https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/in...
£77k in 1999 @ 0.65 = €118k
€118k in 1999 = €166k in 2019
€166k @ 0.9 = £149k !

110 is a bargain!

Ah yeah, I forgot the whole collapse in the £ thing..

I don't think the 911 shape really works that well as a convertible but roof down, this is by far the best effort yet IMO. I suspect it looks even better in the flesh.
