Not related to any other Ford? What with its Sierra windscreen, cut down Sierra doors, and Sierra rear lights...
Well you live and learn, apparently the RS200 is really just a breathed-on Sierra.
With a modified Mk1 Escort engine.

How many times do I have to repeat that the RS200 was not built by Reliant ? In fact it was (a) built in an ex-Reliant factory at Shenstone, several miles from the main Reliant factory, where this plant had originally built Reliant engines. (b) Ford took the lease, Ford Motorsport ran the operation, while some of the workforce were ex-Reliant.

(c) Chassis tubs came from Arch, (d) engines came from Ford (already built for the Escort RS1700T, then further modified for the RS200), (e) four-wheel transmissions came from FF Developments, and (e) it was only the major front and rear GRP body and some other skin panels which were manufactured by Reliant.

(f) Ford took the lease on an empty factory from the spring of 1985 until the spring of 1986, leaving it empty once again. I drove past it again only last week - it is now occupied by a rather anonymous-looking storage/delivery company.

Yes it used common ford switchgear of the time too, why wouldnt it? Obviously a very different beast to a Sierra

You used to be able to buy a Kit car replica, using many parts from a sierra, powered by a YB and only RWD, i think they used a Renault gearbox, possibly renault 21?
Kara replica was one such type

we went on a Reliant factory tour, as part of the tour we were shown the RS200s that THEY were assembling.

At Tamworth ? No - they were not assembling, more like rectifying/storing, in transit.

Trust me, I was around at the time ....

so was I, Jerry Willmot ran the build.

I had access to the factory behind the scenes at the time.

Reliant converted a few hundred transits to 8/9 seat luxury coaches for Ford about the same time,
they were idealy placed to do small scale work on a contract basis,

edit a quick search found this,

As to those pictures - a great bunch, all taken by a Ford photographer for their archive (which is now closed down), each and every one of those depicted locations was in the Shenstone plant, which, as I have already noted, was several miles away from Tamworth (where Reliant cars were assembled). I have other images taken in the same visit..

As is the case with many desirable sports cars.
