I picked up a new (outgoing) M760li before xmas.

Looks much better than this latest version - has the full beans 610 BHP and is a great thing indeed.

IMHO BMW are getting 2 main things wrong with their latest generation cars.

1). The grills - as everyone has commented are hideous. After years of swapping plastic chrome ones for gloss black - you would think BMW would appreciate the grill aesthetic. I mean imagine changing the new grills for black ones? It would look like someone has merely taken the grills off their BBQ and glued them to the front of the car.

2). New instrument clusters - BMW have ditched the round conventional displays and replaced with these weird hexagonal design that just do not look good at all, give me a sweeping needle any day of the week thanks...

BMW defo getting it wrong.

Cheers

Steve

Ever get the feeling they're trying to inject a little Rolls Royce 'style' to their current cars? The X7 and Cullinan aren't far removed from each other after all.
I guess we will get used to it.

By the way, this is a grill:

Can someone with photoshop skills graft the 1st grill onto the BM? Got to be an improvement no?

Has anyone mentioned the gopping grille on this thing yet?

Who’ed have thought that Audis decision 14 years ago would set in motion this ridiculous race to smack on the most hideous grilles. Lexus completly ruined the beautiful LS, BMW follows with this silly 7er, a lot of Americans are going a step further.

Check out the new Chevy Silverado....car design following a lot of contemporary art, architecture, fashion on who can produce the most anti-aesthetic crap to pollute our retinas. These turds responsible for these abominations all deserve to be fired.

A bit pissed that the e38 values will now go higher and my dream last build year 740i will now be even more desirabe.

Why are we forced to use horrible Americanisms if one wants to use the voice interface? "Hay" is something animals eat, not a manner of addressing.

Overwhelming negative reaction to this face-lift and grille.
I'll reserve judgement until seen in the flesh.

Could make a great buy in 5 years at 15k.
You could pay me 15k and I still wouldn't want to look at it every day!

BMW doesn’t make a 4 litre diesel. The 30, 40, 50 designations are various states of tune and number of turbos of the 3.0L straight six. So called motoring journalist doesn’t know this??

Yes indeed. I think it is 100% designed to appeal to rich / wealthy / ostentatious folks. See also Bentayga grilles.

Can we put the massive grill situation to the side for a second and acknowledge BMW having a non m, SE speccable 530 bhp V8 in the range?

Surely that’s the quickest non performance car on sale today? 100 bhp more than the M4, in a car that you can order in grandad spec, champagne SE with the smallest wheels. That’s insane if you ask me.

Also, does this mean the LCI M550i will adopt this engine as well? If they do, goodbye 53 AMG badged Mercs, stick your electric hybrid I6 up your arse, 4.4 twin turbo V8 punk
