FYI - standard discount on the A on drive the deal seems to be about 20% - so £48k becomes £38k and change. Still two years take home pay for the average brit....

Didn’t Wallace and gromit drive an A35?
biggrin

And a Lloyd van in the British Gas advert.

I always thought the old car looked like an Allegro-VandenKlasse.

I think we should be told...

I can't help but feel that manufacturers who spec test cars up to the eyeballs like this are shooting themselves in the foot because it just creates the feeling that those options are somehow necessary and generates the whole "it's a £50k car really" thing.

Yep, these do absolutely nothing for me. At that price point, if I wanted a 4 x 4 hatch, I think I'd be waiting for the Mk8 Golf R, which gets a small power hike and seems to me a more rounded 365 days a year car. For a fun car, the RWD M140i is certainly very appealing. I don't know why, but since the M135i was launched I've really fancied one and I'm not a BMW person by any stretch of the imagination. I think the fact that all the journos say its rough around the edges makes it even more appealing with that engine. Modern day Sunbeam Lotus? Sort of?
Hmm, I have an M135i and at the moment having 4wd appeals, mine has a tuning box and at the moment somewhere between 350 and 390 bhp trying to exit through one tyre is a pain in the arse biggrin

They need an LSD to do the job properly really, and you need to turn the stability stuff off, and a manual gearbox would help.

They are a good car but I dont think they are the barrel of fun people expect compared to a Golf R or whatever as sliding about on public roads is difficult/daft anyway.

I think I might go and buy a Corvette or something.

Do not know where you are getting price from and yes its not a 45, isn't meant to be.
Love the the grey. Maybe you should have a look at other reviews, i have spec 1 up for 37k, that with the grey, 2 tone leather seat style pack, and premier pack.

I really liked the design of the new A-Class when I first saw it in the initial launch photos, but after seeing more of them on the road I've really gone off it. Anyone else feel the same way? I don't absolutely hate it...but there's just something about the design which just doesn't work that I can't put my finger on. Perhaps the fact it looks like a CLS from the front and a Korean econo-box from the back has something to do with it!

Gordon Wagner seems to design stunning show cars which ultimately never seem to translate well into production models...shame.

Looks too much like a tarted up SEAT.
You're not going to park it, glance back & go Wow!
VERY old people will associate A35 with a dinky little Austin saloon from the 1950's
I would if I had in yellow and parked it next to a beach party

Think it depends on the person I have had a vxr type r and 2 JCW(which I loved). If it's anything like a BMW 140i ( I known that rear wheel drive), it will be good 0 to 60 in 4.7secs is not bad is it ?.

For that money I'd rather have a full specced 340i with the M Performance parts and a good map. Could probably still have a holiday with the change too.

Nearly 1.6 tons for a small-ish hatchback, ridiculous.

They're sitting at around 9% off on DTD at the moment. AMG A45 was generally around 12% off any time i checked. I would expect this to be similar, not 20%

This one is very heavily spec'd including a £1700 paint job. That wont be a typical build

Yes i can see why they would want to showcase the options but its bound to put some people off. I'd like to see a lightly optioned car.

I’m not sure whether it’s a good or a bad thing that in the current automotive climate a 4.7 0-60 dash hot hatch is considered ‘meh’?!

One problem with ticking many or all the options is that you can add 100-150kg to the kerb weight. 1555kg quoted is with a 75kg driver but without a single option, I wouldn't be surprised the tested car indeed was closer to 1600kg without a driver. This together with the slightly vague winter rubber giving that sense of stability but also lack of sparkle in the engine/chassis...

The INs seem to think average U.K. Male who’s heright is 5’9” is 83.6kg (or 13.16 stone in old money)
Using that same ratio then a 6’2” 14.2 stone).
75kg isn’t representative of the U.K. man now - likely not for a number of decades.

Can you be more 'beef'? Since when is driver = male? Especially for this car...

i dont understand the AMG labeling anymore.

This isnt a proper AMG as thats the A45.

Do Merc/MAG do this in other models label cars AMG (not just the trim line) and have 2 variants of them, an actual one and a lesser one?

Is there an 'AMG' under the c63 for example?
