RE: Seen, but not touched: Aston Martin Valkyrie

in the interests of science - the laptime references i can find for the Caparo T1 are a 1:14.8 around the Bedford West Circuit, nearly identical to the Formula Palmer thing a lot of people here would have driven at a Palmersport day.
That Formula Palmer car is still behind something like a Duratec Sports 2000. It's heavy for a single seater, the tyres are slicks but rock hard, and the setup not particularly aggressive. It's the best 'driving experience' car together with it's prototype sister, but it's still not at my "cheap racecar" bar of performance. Maybe stick proper race slicks on and it would be quicker...
Caparo not being on the money likely down to road tyres, and under developed aero. Too much power, and not enough grip...

there's a bit more to it than just power to weight... beating a hybrid LMP1 car is likely unrealistic.getting close to it - with their track only version that isn't road legal, would still be hugely impressive. ground effect is how it will be done - how that then feels on the road will be ... "interesting"!
This is where the road car and the track pack/AMR PRO cars are so different though, the AMR PRO is the car aimed to be faster than LMP1, but it's not in any way road legal so isn't constrained to the same issues the normal car faces when it comes to things like an MOT. Ikemi said:

Save a gram here and there.... Then the fat bastid gets in it. What's the point??
Because a 1000kg car with a 100kg driver will weigh less than a 1300kg car with a 100kg driver?Of course, choosing whether to wear a belt or not when driving this would have a far bigger benefit. So it seems rather absurd if you ask me.

To be clear, the article talked of saving tiny amounts of weight i.e grams from different types of badges for a rather large outlay. Not 300kg in the example above!!!

My 300kgs was a little tongue-in-cheek but the point still stands. The car is lighter because of those saved measures. Of course, choosing whether to wear a belt or not when driving this would have a far bigger benefit. So it seems rather absurd if you ask me.

I don't think you realise the market for those buying the car. They want the best, and saving a few thousand quid here or there means nothing. They want to know that what they're buying is the best the engineers can do with what's technologically possible at the.
This has probably already done the rounds, but it's a good watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH2nDhBJrNI
With each bit of detail released about the project, for me it becomes more and more exquisite. It really is quite a special piece.

Hang on... Why don't they just use a sticker instead then? That would be even lighter shirley?? And keep the cost down too....
Laughable.
What you've described is a fantasy when getting down to things like badge materials or whether to lacquer an airbox or not (saving 80 grams). It's not about engineering at that point, it's about how to extract as much money as possible from these very rich folk. But the actual benefit is nothing. That is the reality here I'm afraid. Sorry to disappoint you.
