Looks like a 4x4 because the wheels have made the ride height so high.

It's not the wheels the ABC suspension has been raised up to its highest setting Brabus actually have their cars set 30/25mm lower than the standard SL55 (I know this because I bought the Brabus module for my SL55) it also made the ride firmer.

Don't understand why the seller has taken photos of the car on its highest suspension setting. Makes it looks like its on stilts. Lovely car though but definitely not worth £30k more than a standard 55. The CLK is not in the same league!

Also wikipedia has the brabus as 550hp, so that's a reasonable increase on the 476 of a standard car.

Never really liked this era of Mercedes though, cheap looking interiors and usually complemented by a rusty exterior.

You won't have any issues with rust on these models as for cheap interiors they were well appointed in comparison to their rivals.

I remember these being my favourite car when I started secondary school back in 2002, I'd pretty much forgotten about them from then until recently when I saw this one for sale.

It's a crazy amount of money, but I'd almost say that in the current market £50k doesn't seem too extortionate.

From the article "To the casual passer by, however, only a set of gorgeous 20-inch monoblock wheels signalled that this was no ordinary SL55."

The wheels look amazing. The Google search term "expensive alloy wheels" should return a picture of those.

Not special enough compared to the V12, or in light of the non-Brabus examples available which could breathe more fire with less than the difference.

I do adore these things though; the design language of this era of Mercedes split opinion at the time, no doubt still does, but to my eyes has aged very well (see this vintage CL coupe also).
