RE: Ginetta confirms development of 600hp supercar
Discussion
There is no real small and lightweight sports coupe with an interesting engine on the market (ideally an inline 6 for my taste.) That's where I'd play if I were Ginetta, building upon the experience gained with the road version of the G40.
Exciting and risky that they're going to develop their own engine.

Sadly, the modern Ginetta have pulled out of the road car market up to now because they have struggled with quality control issues. Is that going to change?
TVR previously demonstrated the difficulty of developing a reliable long term in house motor (AJP), csn Ginetta pull it off?
The market for Supercars is hardly sparse. Would i but a brand new Ginetta or a used Porshe GT3 etc etc.?
Good luck to them but i dont see it. Would be better off making the G40 a true Caterham or Elise rival or buying back the rights to the G4 and G12.
The care home business must generate masses of cash!

I'mm surprised they haven't used a crate motor from GM or Ford which could easily give the quoted horsepowers
when a press release says they are working on a 'new engine' it means they have replaced at least the plastic cover with one that has their logo.My bet says this is going to be a slightly modded Ford 3.5 Ecoboost gen 2.

What makes you think they haven't? I'd interpret 'developing and building' as meaning they're bolting on an few shiny bits and mapping the fuel injection.I'm wondering if this is going to be based on their bonded carbon fibre chassis project from a couple of years ago, which used a Chevy V8, with a rear mounted transaxle (apologies for crappy photos; my camera was playing up that day):

You can tootyle about on the road in a G40 and I often do in my R. It has a Ford engine but we all know that with something more interesting it would also cost a lot more as well. Exciting and risky that they're going to develop their own engine.
Most supercars are bought by posers rather than track day freaks. The market for very expensive supercars from a brand no-one (outside of enthusiasts) have heard of it pretty small. The Noble M600 generated a lot of positive comments in the motoring press but not sure how many they sold (I've not seen one).
Wow PH's. A manufacturer can't even announce a new supercar without getting slated on here? I'm struggling to understand the hate.
Ginetta make road cars now, you can still buy a road legal G40 and get this... it comes with a years racing included! These guys are one of the most successful independent race car manufacturers in the world with cars competing at the top levels of GT3 and even LMP classes around the world. All of which are designed and made in the UK. What's not to like? As for the long winded tease, from what I understand their LMP1 car went from concept sketch to racing at LeMans in under a year.
I suppose as usual in these forums people will talk about how they want a raw, paired back 'race-car for the road' but when it comes down to it none of them will put thier hands in their pockets.
The G40 is loads of fun.

Well my interpretation would be 'developing and building' as in their own design. Otherwise I guess you'd get more detail like TVR having Cosworth modify a crate Ford 5.0 V8. But as the article is short on any real detail and only hints at a sort of design, it could still all be on a designers I-Pad for all we know. toppstuff said:
Wasn’t Ginettaa big plan to bring us a new high end sports car based on the Farbio ?
Whatever happened to that ?
They built 150 of them (roughly). Unfortunately all the people that were screaming for the Farbio to be saved never turned up and bought one so they stopped making it in 2015.Whatever happened to that ?

Or are you going to force us to make a decision based purely on the badge, because that's a really silly way to buy a car.
