When I had my first one, I used to say if you could combine the ST170’s chassis with the drivetrain from the Civic Type R, you’d have an unbeatable hot hatch.

I had a Mk1 1.8 Zetec as my first car, loved it.

Eibach springs and fitting a ST170 Exhaust manifold and Cat rounded it off nicely, mostly the springs though.

April 19, found one 5 years ago and rebuilt it..lightening everything, no rear seats, no airbags, lighter Recaro front seats which are so much better and lowered drive position rather than theTransit van position Ford envisaged, everything was rebuilt, body.. rear wheel boxes, both sills, all suspension, every new bush and bolt, front and rear links ball joints discs calipers & aeroquip brake lines,Battery moved to behind pass seat, std front springs with KYB struts, rear with spring kit at full height and modded german shocks, car chassis now sits level.. then lowered the final drive by using Cougar 16'' wheels with 40 series tyres so that the long final drive diff ratio didn't spoil the acceleration.. and vibra tehnics drive side engine mount with a diesel one on the box side, massaged the gear shift so it changes like an Ford should.. its brakes handles and goes like st off a shovel..removed the troublesome inlet manifold control system, and use a cycle cable and downtube gear lever to set the flaps midway , result more torque.. best handling and informative front drive car I have owned and I was a dyed in the wool VW mk1 and mk2 GTIGolf diehard on the road , hillclimbs and tracks for many years..and i have built about 25 cars from shells in my lifetime.. they are an appreciating classic for the future, if only they had used the duratorque unit from the Fiesta st150.. more easily modded for power..
