My 1st job was at TWR
and one of the engine builders told me that when the vitesse engine was being stripped under the watchful eye of an FIA man, the cam was pulled out and 'accidentally' dropped into the drip tray under the engine

this tray was full of oil
engine builder apologizes
reaches into the oil , withdraws a cam and FIA man confirms that its a reground stock item and therefore legal

the original rather naughty billet cam remained in place hidden under the oil.....

I remember years ago, must have been 2005/06 doing some work for a company in Hampshire that had one of these TWR racers in the compound, loved that place all sorts kicking about in sheds. Loads of old Jaguar racing gear. David coulthards old motorhome old Touring cars and my favourite bit of kit a group C car couldn’t believe how much of it was made of wood, no carbon fibre back then.

What an amazing car the SD1 was
I remember the motor show launch you couldn’t
Get near the stand
Ii looked incredible amongst all the other cars
What a shame spen kings creation was put together by a group of men that couldn’t see further than there noses
Alas there’s nothing like a Vitesse to drive
Great big wide bedroom of a car that handles like an F1 car
Somebody said to me once ‘that’s an old mans car’ I just laughed
Because I knew how wrong they were
It had soul amongst all its assembly problems
That shine through ,that no suv could ever match.....
