The Velar is a good looking car. I would be interested to know how the pop out door handles fared in the polar vortex conditions in the USA. I believe they were engineered to work down to -10°C. Temperature has fallen below that on accession even here in the UK. Anyone know?

There's an R-Dynamic in Byron Blue just up the road from me. Very pretty thing which makes the FFRR look a bit lardy and frumpy. It's so modern and of it's time I kind of want it to be all electric (or at least an electric version of it). I love a V8 as much as the next bloke and I'm sure this goes and sounds just as well as it should. Whilst I applaud Land Rover for making products like this I just think it's a bit of a dinosaur - 12.3mpg combined is gonna hurt.

Tesla are here. Rivian will soon join them. 400 mile range, 0-60 in 3 seconds, 7 seat SUV's are real things and JLR need to compete with them. They've shown what they're capable of with the I-PACE.

Funny that because I spend a lot of time in the Alps, in winter and summer, and so far as people who actually live there goes you see far many more people driving little Fiat Panda 4x4's than big heavy SUV's. Far, far better in the snow than any big heavy SUV with it's big wheels and tyres. Good friend of mine is worth many millions and still knocks around for the winter in, yes a 4x4 Panda.

Suppose if you have lots of wealth and are confident in yourself (i.e. don't feel the need to shout about it to all and sundry) then you can pick the best tool for the job without feeling the pressure to maintain a certain image all the time.

Way way way way way overpriced.

This is not worth a premium over a Macan. No way.

JLR have shot themselves in the head ( again ).

The FF was for the journey there and back
I'll have to add a Panda to the fleet now!

Hate that term. Gifted means someone who has a talent for something. A gifted piano player for instance.

Taken from or used from? A bit better.

I think the image thing is how you perceive it. Or the owners just pick a car to annoy the typical bitter, chip on shoulder type. It doesn't take much those to get irate, based on your tone, so I don't blame them.

Respectfully disagree 100%

I think in perceived quality, class, size and "want factor" the Velar is a notch above the Macan.

Factor in a bigger V8 engine than the Macan can offer, looks that are more concept car than Audi Q5 in Macan's case, and if it was my money I would punt for the Velar.

Reboddied mass produced Audi Q5 vs hand built british concept car with roaring V8, for a little more money :-)

Would many buy this over a RRS SVR?
Not in the market but yes, I would actually

Had a Mk1 RRS and loved it but its pretty big for punting around town which is what the Velar would surely be doing most days.
The Velar is also a little less brash, thats 'little' smile, and so would attract a little less attention whilst going about your business.

If I had a place in the Alps though it would be a FF SVR though - which I dont unfortunately

Cheers
Had a RRS SVR and now have a RR SV Dynamic. Would seriously look at this when replacing OH's F-Pace - something I would never have done with the RRS SVR. I know there is an F-Pace SVR on the way, eventually, but again not something that would interest us. Will be watching this with interest.

BIG YAWN, yet another over priced and blinged up SUV which will never go off road, and aimed squarely at the chav with money.

Is it me or do all recent JLR products blend into one amorphous bowl of blandness? Perhaps a half descent effort at re-launching the Defender, not as a vanity chariot fashion statement but as a proper off roader, would give JLR back some much needed credibility? Just a thought.

Not irate at all - far from it. I just think it's very funny how some people seem to have so little else of interest going on in their life that they feel the need to buy or more likely, lease this sort of thing to make themselves feel good about them self.

Don't like the tailpipes very much. I find these either underwhelming or slightly vulgar in the flesh unfortunately depending on the spec... Would prefer a RR Sport if given the choice.

I think it's funnier how some people seem to have so little else of interest going on in their life that they feel the need to make assumptions about OTHER people's cars and motivations to buy them. Not sure what the method to pay for depreciation has anything to do with anything although that seems to match the chip on shoulder type perfectly.

I also think it looks great, but isn't it a bit odd to have bigger brake discs on the rear than the front (albeit by just 1mm)?
Odd, but not unheard of. I once had a Dodge Journey that had that very trait. Changed them for later model twin-piston calipers and larger discs because the originals were totally underpsec'd for the car and would warp within 2k miles.

Edited by Evercross on Tuesday 5th February 10:16
Not uncommon, my TVR has from memory has 260mm front & 286mm rear, never sure why. It stops well though without distribution bias, even though these are very moddest size discs these days. Not clear what the 1mm on the Velar achieves, lets hope they can halt all that weight - must be 2 tons !!

I suspect they'll cope with lower temps than that. Most manufacturers do arctic testing.

I agree with him. So maybe Im a nutcase as well.

I am not interested in PCP or lease deals for £1k per month. I'd be equally happy buying an old RRS 4.2 Supercharged for cash and spending the change on other more interesting things.

So what? How is it relevant to a brand new 550hp 4x4 fun thing?
Why do you feel the need to inject comments like this into a thread that has nothing to do with PCP or lease or other older used cars? What purpose could it possibly serve?

Getting mad at theoretical customers of a 550hp V8 4x4 on line. An insanely normal thing to do on a forum that's supposed to be for motoring enthusiasts confused

Company failing due to a lack of vehicles which appeal to people who aren't well-heeled (or highly credit-worthy, at least) celeb-and-status-obssessives makes another vehicle for said demographic - competing with all their other vehicles which do that already.

The answer to your problems, JLR, is not another 5.0V8 vehicle - you need people to buy regular/everyday cars in volume or you will go bust quite soon.

Also - your quality processes need some work - try that instead.
