Yes I have. A newer better Lexus and a newer better Mustang. To buy that old Mercedes would be a dumb thing to do, as I’ve akresdy said.

You describe the Lexus - and I quote - as "the Japanese Mercedes". This shows that you believe all Lexus' ever made - without exception - to be inferior to the equivalent Mercedes model.

And the Mustang is a two-door coupe, so not exactly an alternative to an estate, is it Alan?

I’ve had mine for almost three years and over the last 12 months have averaged 16.8mpg. Suspect the 512 bhp remap and fi valvetronic exhaust doesn’t help so thank goodness for the panda 100 runaround!

Please quote my post where I said that. I’ve never used that phrase.

All I know is Lexus make better cars than Mercedes and really it should be the other way around but Toyota do make the best cars in the world. Lexus IS the ultimate expression of the ultimate car manufacturer.

Can't remember the episode. It's going back a few years though...

They named their compact executive saloon (the IS) after an Islamic terrorist organisation. You have therefore just outed yourself as a terrorist sympathizer. SHAME ON YOU!

I think most would agree they are more reliable, but that is only one measure. As I suggested earlier, this is an enthusiasts site. Most want reliable cars, but that alone doesn't make them better

What's a "st kicker"?

You acknowledge that for the same money you can get a 5yr newer E class and yet I’m somehow the village idiot for pointing out a similar thing 8 pages earlier.
You could also buy half an E46 M3 CSL. Or 1/10th of a Porsche 964 Turbo. Or three-and-a-half two year old VW Up!s

Just because it's not where I would spend my money doesn't make it overpriced. For a limited run halo version of a halo model I think it's surprisingly reasonable, especially compared to the likes of the same-era M3 GTS or CRT.

For context, 2012-13 RS3s also tend to float around £25k despite being a class below and 200bhp poorer.

It might be rare but the 507 is a much better proposition with SLS internals and the facelift interior (non-facelift interior is terrible).

The 507 is not as rare but there aren't that many tourings around it's an epic car.

I’d agree that the 507 is the most honed example of the breed, Black Series excluded.

There is though a significant curiosity value and rarity to the 520 though.

I believe there are around 20 Edition 507 estates in the UK.

I would have absolutely loved one, but they come up so rarely I didn't want to wait for one. What a car though, what an engine.

You consistently half answer questions. You owned 5 problematic Mercs because of a childhood dream. But you kept buying them and haven't explained why the loyalty remained over 10+ years of disappointment.

You won't buy a car that has been speculated on, which is fair enough, but struggle with the idea that cars can appreciate in value. In your view this Merc is shed material, and you may or may not be right. But in offering alternatives you list 2 Mercs that are much more likely shed candidates without any hint of irony.

And then you alight on a Lexus and a Mustang as your choices, because they are 'better' without recognising they are not comparators, nor indeed how you define better.

Maybe if you could answer the questions properly, rather than just saying 'they are unreliable', or 'they are better' people would give you more respect.....
