Anyone read this ?....

https://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/22290/porsche-primes...

I don't follow all the Brexit chat.

Could any City types / economists on here who work in finance / trade, explain why Porsche will need to apply 10% if we come out of Europe?

Why will they, as a manufacturer, be worse off with no trade deal ?
Will our Govt start charging them more to import goods, which they have to pass on ?

Are EU companies importing to the UK currently subsidised in some way?

What they seem to be saying is that *if* there is a tariff applied, the customer will be the one bearing this cost. (Not a cost that exists already today for them)

If we leave with no deal then it’s assumed WTO tariff rates will apply, so on vehicles imported from third countries that will be 9.8%.

Porsche U.K. will be charged an additional 9.8% in duty when they import the vehicle from Porsche Germany. They can’t claim that back, so are asking their customers to indemnify them.

Yes, there will potentially be import tariffs going on both directions - it will hurt UK companies trying to export to the EU, too (ie. about 60% of our export trade).

No EU companies are not subisdised at the moment, they're just not penalised.

Hopefully VAG, BMW and Mercedes will do the same.

If Brexit means 10% less German cars on our road I can only say that's a great great thing.

Our business could have the same issue as our factory is in Italy. So when we leave we will be an importer. If there is no deal and we follow WTO rules we will be charged a 2.5% tariff.
So we have been advising customers that this cost will be passed to them.

You realise it will apply to all manufacturers who import cars, right?

(Unless we get a super duper trade deal that we were promised the day after we leave...)

The UK is currently part of a European Single Market. When we leave the Single Market this will probably result in an increase in taxation for goods and services from Single Market countries.

We will quickly sign trade deals with other non EU states. Under EU rules tarrifs are applied to non EU made items which rather biased things in favour of lesser quality high priced German cars. We’ve let German, and France (two of our oldest enemies) flood our market for too long.

Not any more suckers. Tarrifs are coming.

If we leave on WTO rules then we likely see a spike in inflation rates as these tariffs take affect.

Wrong it will be up to OUR government what it charges we don't have to impose tariffs ....

No we don't. Europe will surely relish the opportunity to flood the UK market with cars, whilst applying the full non ESM tariff to anything we try to export to them.

Hopefully they’ll impose the maximum Tarrifs they can on EU made cars. For too long we’ve supported the German economy-it’s time to stop.

Well, we’d have to leave the WTO if we did that.

The 10% applies to cars and car parts too so sadly our new school run fleets of Vauxhall Mokkas and Nissan Notes will also be 10% more expensive..

In the absence of an indigenous car industry of scale which economies do you suggest UK punters should be supporting ?
