I start by sticking the reg into https://cartaxcheck.co.uk/
There are plenty of similar sites - may be some better?- but that gives me MOT history and road tax cost.
No horrors in the MOT history of AM08ZNA that would put me off.
Thank you. There are plenty of similar sites - may be some better?- but that gives me MOT history and road tax cost.

So......deposit placed on dead shed Galaxys replacement. A jdm import Honda Stepwagon.
Unfortunately not shed though....so not welcome here....I tried so hard to keep the Mrs in shed land had my sights on a 09 honda frv for 1k but she was having none of it...maybe it was the tan leather seats?
Still soldiering on with the mk1 grotrod Galaxy so keeping one foot in the camp.

I've been hunting for a new shed for 3-4 weeks but can't find anything worth buying. A year ago I could go out with £200-£400 and come back with something decent enough to last a few months whereas now even absolute scrappers are pulling £300+. Hoping the price of scrap crashes so the prices come back down again.

Is that the engine people assume is essentially the legendary PD130 but is actually totally different and likes to poke a conrod through the block?
No idea it’s a 1.9 PD 8v with 110 bhp. Lord Cunnington Smythe said:
People with any sense are hanging onto serviceable cars at the moment, it's not a good time to chop and change, ride out the next 12 months and things should start to level out again.
Still a few bargains out there, FB Marketplace has been my saviour lately. Gumtree has been as dry as a bone My old Winter hack shed may be going today. The beautiful Suzuki X90!
She’s only covered 60k and is by far the best vehicle I have ever used in the snow. I stuck some mud and snow tyres on it and when everything else round my way was being abandoned during the last dumping we had, I was driving around almost no differently to driving on dry tarmac. Even the steepest most treacherous hills were dealt with with zero loss of traction, both up and down.
It unfortunately burst a pas pipe shortly after so it was dumped at our workshop waiting to be sorted, but since getting my Sedici shed and that too being great in the snow, I just didn’t bother.
In typical Japanese fashion, despite sitting for a few years outside, it started instantly with the first turn of the key and sounded no different to the day I turned it off.
A marmite car for sure, but I loved its quirkiness.

Are you confusing that with French cars.
I've had more problems with VW Group stuff than anything French - same applies to anything that family members have owned - you ask for advice then throw that out there. Do what you want, but don't come crying to us when it chucks a rod... or the turbo fails.... or the EGR valve... or flywheel.... should I stop yet? Edited by R50 BPS on Sunday 20th June 23:00

Point is all cars break, they all cost money, I’m solely basing it on the MOT history and what it’s had done in the last month. It’s also got lots of receipts for work I’ve not even seen. Edited by R50 BPS on Sunday 20th June 23:00
It could throw up problems or it could not.

Hard to know if the con rod will appear before or after the electrics self destruct. Or fill with water. Or both.
Are you confusing that with French cars.VAG stuff is more profitable to fix for other people. Needy, complex, unreliable, and suffer from a huge number of non specific faults, on the grounds they can't make electrics, and often can't build mechanicals properly either. Audi (allegedly) long ago stopped soldering it's electrical joints, instead relying on, literally, square pins in round holes. Which is fine and cheap, right up until they get old and corrode.
