Sub 600 quid car from a trader.

...and it's an Alfa with over 140k? Do you really have to ask?!

Looks well cared for in the photos and 1 owner so a good risk.
The 2.0 has an early cambelt interval and unlike some cars it's best adhered to. (36k)

At that price if the suspension doesn't knock then I would go for it. Probably safe from rust and major suspension faults for a year if no advisories as just had it's MOT.

Check all the locks, buttons, mechanisms as at that price I would expect some not to work. But could be fine for shed use.

I get the idea of stress-free motoring with sheds, I’ve done it myself, and agree that it’s very liberating.

What I don’t get is those of you with multiple sheds.  That would just depress me, to look out the window and see multiple piles a sh*t parked hehe
But they are my piles of sh*t that owe me nothing.. And who doesn't need a back up shed for their back up shed for their shed??

Each to their own, to be fair :-)

As said, a shed, for me is a useful tool.

It's not an inherently enjoyable experience, for me as a petrolhead, beyond the aspects of being able to park it anywhere and generally drive stress free.

I don't get any other pleasure from owning a stheap, so hence, I'm kinda baffled when folk choose to buy and own multiples thereof hehe

MOT check website suggests its covered less than 1000 miles in the last year. Is that because it spent most of the year broken somewhere? smile

Handsome looking thing though.

My £100 9-3 TID is still going strong

IMG_20190907_155726 by Steve, on Flickr

Haven't washed it since this picture in September laugh...only issues have been the cam sensor failing giving non starts (£30 and a couple hours of work) and now one of the strut top bearings need replaced at a cost of £10

I have now been offered a cheap 57 plate facelift estate though with the same engine, rather tempted

It's been rather liberating driving around in a car the cost less than most monthly payments on something newer

How do people get cars so cheap. Mine was £450 and now I feel like I've been ripped off.

Here is the core reason for Sheding. Absolutely everything else to do with cars should be subservient to this.

You can either let a car be your servant or let a car be your master - your call.

I did wash our 325i at the weekend, mainly because I don’t like to see it sat filthy dirty on the driveway when I look out the window ... next week marks the start of our 11th year of ownership.

Was toying with the idea of changing it for something newer, so asked WBAC for a valuation the other day, and it’s value is definitely in sub-£1000 shed territory smile

I recently managed to fix the heated rear screen by reseating the relay in the fusebox.

A new fault I won’t tackle myself is the passenger door lock actuator, which no longer operates on the central locking (looked on YouTube to see how it’s done, and I’m convinced I’d end up making things worse).

Shed rules probably dictates not to fix it, especially since our local garage quoted £350. But it is quite annoying when you have passengers. Brand new genuine BMW actuator procured from eBay for £40 delivered and found someone to fit it in return for a few beers.

Given it’s value, I suspect we’ll keep it until it dies properly now. I did notice the coolant has some worrying oily looking residue in it - so maybe that won’t be as long as I’d like...

Just another bonus of multi-shed ownership. Four out of my six were unusable due to a variety of maladies/jobs in progress. For most people having four cars out of action means relying on other modes of transport. Not me, I still have two sheds I can use.....now up to three again as I managed to fix one of the dead 'uns this morning.

The only issue for me is it's all the wafty long barges which are working when ideally I need one of the smaller ones for parking near work due to small and minimal amounts of spaces. Never mind, waft into work, park miles away and get a sweat on walking the rest of the way.

Am now looking at a cheap 200-300 quid small car snotter to temporarily add to the collection and to tide me over...

Sorry, but owning 6 stheaps sounds like hell to me.

Edit -

I live at the bottom of a cul de sac, so two are on the road outside the house, the other four in the communal spaces, with two spaces left over for visitors after my neighbours have parked their one-car-per-household. Amazingly, no animosity whatsoever - in fact the neighbours come out and reminisce about 90s cars with me !

One of these days I will do the full on line-up and snap them for prosperity.
and you're gonna add a seventh?

Glad I'm not one of your neighbours. Very generous of you to leave two spaces for visitors (soon to be reduced to one, by the addition of the 7th stter)

You are being incredibly selfish, imo.

Sorry you feel that way.

However, as I said there is no animosity from any of the neighbours at all - they'd soon tell me if there was a problem, believe me. We all rub along just fine here, thankfully, and look out for each other. Unlike some areas where people are very territorial about car park spaces etc.

Perhaps I should have added that I've got a Council garage now to ease your concern, just waiting on the keys, so the status quo of six can be maintained even if I do opt for numero seven.

Slice it any way you like, one person taking up 6 parking spaces is royally taking the piss and you know it - hence your comment of "Amazingly, no animosity..."

Apparently it works for you and your neighbours. As I say though, I'm glad I'm not one of them.

Happy shedding smile

I think it depends what you find. I ended up with 14 cars at one point because "I can't turn that down".

I had a really nice XJ6 for £500, a Volvo V70R for £500, my first rust-free Mk1 MX5 was £500, my Volvo T5 with a 2k LPG kit was £500, a really lovely 190E merc with a simple sensor issue cost me £350, one of my current W123 Mercs was £500, Alfa 155 £400.....(it's a very long list)

It just gets addictive I guess, although a lot of the cars I used to enjoy picking up cheaply, now seem to be growing in popularity and the rarity value has pushed prices up for many (mainly Japanese things). I'm also yet to have any real disasters, either!

That said, we also run something new, but that's more for the other half. I used to love just putting five or six hundred quid into ebay as a BIN price and having a look at what came up. I have had all sorts of quirky things as a result, probably 95% of them I didn't even go to look at! All part of the fun.

How much is it costing you to insure and tax all these concurrently so as to be able to use them any time you want? Pretty much everything without a lawnmower engine in it will be minimum £140+ tax and rising rapidly as the engine size increases. Add in your insurance and MOTs for them all and that's a lot of money each month just to have a bunch of cars sat about. What am I missing?

I currently commute 230km a day so i chopped in my 220bhp Cooper S (R53) for an oil burner. I decided on a 2012 €17k Subaru Forester. Its LOVELY and handles the mileage very well....But i wont do it again. Once this Forester has had its day i will be returning to a bomb/shed/wreck. I dont care if i forget to clean it, I dont care if i miss an oil change (I do my own between services), I wont mind if it gets scratched and i can sleep knowing i am not losing €17k rapidly once bought.

If i go through 2 cars a year i wont care. I love having a nice smart modern car....But there is nothing quite like the feeling of not giving a damn.

I owned this shed last year, but have just got it back. Needed a spring that was changed on the owner's drive (he is a friend). The car is part of a deal with another car of mine, but the cost would be about £150 for the car. 2003 Laguna 1.8 Dynamique with 118k.
