Bosch wiper blades?! Moneybags
One, but yes.

I was going to go cheap, but the main reason for purchase is to stop the fking noise of the current one and I didn't trust the cheapies to be quiet.

I've got Bosch wiper blades on my shed as well, living like a (skint) king hehe

Just been reading the 'Goodbye 2019' thread and it got me thinking that the best thread of 2019 for me is this one!

Easily the friendliest corner of PH, maybe because we are all so carefree driving around in our old bangers and happily parking anywhere!

I never thought my post about an old Nissan in February would have so many replies and constant positivity by the end of the year.

Enjoy the festive season my fellow shedders and hope 2020 brings shed happiness (and another MOT for Magpie's Galaxy). hehe

this and the pet section are the friendliest , when someone posts there having to have a pet put to sleep everyone rallies around regardless of anything else.

Anyone running a Rover 75 as a winter shed?

Mine passed the MOT no advisories at all a few weeks ago.

Now within a week the headlight bulb has gone ( a bugger to change), thermostat borked, using a lot of water and the EML goes off/on at random times.

At £400 for a year of trouble free motoring I suppose I can't complain.
Won't the thermostat be causing the other problems? (not the headlight)

Current Winter shed now has obligatory steel wheels and Winter tyres fitted. It can also be switched into AWD mode which is handy.

As has been mentioned, it's great hacking around, not really worrying too much.

I travel to a farm quite often to a unit we have there and in the current Cupra I use for work, in the narrow lanes, it's a constant game of giving way and allowing enough room for everyone to pass, whilst trying not to stripe the sides up on bushes etc. Couldn't care less in this. hehe

Almost 10% of the cost of the car on servicing. As much as I pretend that I hate it, my Golf shed really has been great so far so it deserved some love.

Gone a bit posh there with the oil. I usually just enter 10/40, 5 litres into ebay and order the cheapest synth/ semi-synth one that comes up hehe

I always buy my oil from wilko these days, very good value. But when i tell "brand snobs" I have to explain it does in involve replacing engines after every 2 trips smile

There's something rather satisfying about seeing a car with steelies on

I've read that VAG cars with a DPF really like VW 507 spec oil so I splashed out. Normally wouldn't go Castrol due to the fact the commonly sold size is 4 litres, but this was cheap-ish, 5l and from a proper VW garage so seemed worth a shot.

Otherwise I'd have gone with Triple QX or Asda.

Excellent choice. So far under the radar that nobody knows about them and their capabilities. Shouldn't have sold mine.

Me too, don't know what it is, steelies just look so much better than anything! The more modern the car the better in my eyes

The Volvo based shedding continues...

Her V50 diesel decided to yet again lose power / light the dash up like a christmas tree so cue a major strop from her ladyship and thus, she's now opted not to drive it for a bit. So, I pulled the CEM out of it and cleaned the connections (again) and put some cloth tape on one of the multiplugs as it seemed a bit loose. 2 weeks and 1,000 miles in... so far so good. Aside for that, it was on tame mechanic's ramp to have the wheel balanced and I noted the NSF ball joint was showing a bit lift so replaced both. £18.00 for both... they'll last a month I bet!

My V70 D5 is apparently fine, I say apparently as I've not been in it for over 2 weeks given the V50 being difficult. Her ladyship is running it to work and given the state of it, I can only assume she travels as the crow flies. It's also sporting a dislodged fog light and some grey fur in that general area and thus, I can only assume that she's chalked up another kill.

My sisters recently acquired V50 1.8 hasn't moved for a couple of weeks whilst she continues to try and sell her old car. Thus far, it's has a serious clean, iso-fix bracket fitted (in readiness for January... or sooner) new door seals, new filler cap, mats and at the weekend I picked up four "as new" Cross Climates with 8mm on them for less than one new would cost so that's a bit of a result. Once on the road, ie taxed and insured it needs brakes, tyres fitted, handbrake adjusted and an exhaust leak fixed.

I keep find myself browsing the classifieds looking for something much newer and nicer to buy but then I venture out in to the dark, muddy and generally chaotic locality before then finding myself in car parks full of harassed people and then I think that keeping something old and sheddy and using it without a care in the world is just a nicer way to live!

Latest from the Mondeo.

Received my £6 OBD2 scanner from eBay, looks like this -

Scanned it and it came up these codes

Not sure which one is related to the 'pulsing' under full throttle, so cleared the codes and headed to the nearest bit of derestricted autobahn. No problem at all, the pulsing had gone away. Pulled up to 110 with ease, slowed down and did a 6th gear full throttle from 50 and nothing. Very odd, appears just clearing the code has got rid of the issue.

Will keep an eye on it and have the OBD2 scanner at the ready if it comes back so I can scan it straight away.

Also attempted the wheel bearing today. Narrowed down which wheel it is, took the calliper off and refitted the wheel, spun freely as fast as possible and there's certainly a low down rumble so I'm 95% sure its that wheel.

Found out the small bolt holding the disc in place is a T55, not any of the allen keys I had, so an hour round trip to find one. Get back to only find out that the 4 bolts that hold the wheelbearing/hub assembly on is a T60. Brilliant. Given up for the day, getting the old man to post a T60 socket to me in Munich. Hopefully have another crack at it again in a multistory car park this week.

Can you clean the MAF sensor? I know I've seen spray cleaner for it, whether it works or not though I am not sure as the worst I have had ot do is the EGR.

I'm guessing if your particulate trap is still full after the distance and speeds you've driven it is unlikely to burn off by itself. But I do wonder if those codes are interconnected as the MAF error may mean you have incorrect pressure coming in which triggers the the DPF warning going out. Might be worth checking the condition of all the hoses in the system?

Is it a Fiat Sedici?

It is one of those cars that I know of, but I'm not sure where from/why/how. I can't recall ever having seen one but I know what they look like. Under the radar indeed!

They're good then?

Suzuki SX4 under the skin. Switchable 4WD with low speed diff lock too. Go for the 16V petrol (diesel seems troublesome based on Fiat Forum comments) and it'll run forever. Seem to suffer broken springs more than most, and the other issues are, er...

An honest little car.

It's funny, they (the Sedici) seem quite localised in terms of populations - presumably around where there's a good Fiat Dealer (or used to be, anyway). I see them often in Leighton Buzzard, of all places!

Fiats cheaper than Suzuki badged versions, incidentally (be careful with the latter as not all have AWD, some are FWD only)

What the longest anyone has had their old shed for? I needed wheels with a budget of £250 and ended up with this old Scirocco. To be fair, my budget was blown by an extra £30.

Come next month, I’ll have had it 20 years. It was used every day until November 2014. Since then it’s been my daily from March to October and something else has taken the winter duties to avoid salt etc.

The plan is that next year, it’ll be an all year daily once more.

20 years will almost certainly be a record.

I can't see me getting rid of my Focus any time soon, although given the tendency for Fords to rust rather a lot I suspect it'll be nowhere close to 20 years!
