Just got this C1, 2006/56 one owner car with 5,700 miles on it for £700. The thought was buy it for the daughter in law to learn to drive in, but after driving it about i think I’ll run it for 6 months and give my other car a 6 month break then the DIL can have it.

S
Looks like a bargain for £700 with that mileage. Fantastic little motors!

Not many miles for a car of its age, mind you I know of a Ka Mk2 that has only done 1700 miles from when it was new in 2009. It did 8 miles last year between MOTs

I know the owner - she bought it for shopping trips and uses it for Tesco once or twice a week, it’s cheaper for her to use Uber now...hence why I’ve bought it.

Another liberating thing about running an older car, is the ability to "give it a go" when it comes to repairs, without fear of causing expensive damage to an expensive possession.

With our 2005 325i, one of the rear window lifters failed last week (with the window wide open).

Pulled door card off, pushed the glass shut, and wedged it securely in place with some zip ties, and the first piece of scrap timber I found in the shed. Waiting now for the £19 second hand part to arrive from eBay, which I shall attempt to fit next weekend. I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing, but it doesn't look too hard. If it doesn't work, I'll just leave the block of wood in place and reattach the door card (because we hardly ever open the rear windows anyway)

If I wind the clock back 10+ years ago when the car was worth nearer to £15k, I'd have been frightened of breaking the door card, the glass, or the wiring loom - and would probably have taken it to the main dealer and paid them an astronomical figure to fix it instead. £19 is fine, £319 not so fine smile

Flexible engine and slick g/box?
Yeah, not too bad. In fact the gear stick and feel of the box (ooer) are exactly the same as in my Sedici (suzuki SX4 with a Fiat badge)

I stuck some Mini wheels on it today. The suzuki centre caps from the old wheels wouldn't fit, so I snapped the tabs off and bonded them on..

Funny thing SAAB's they really do break the mould for "shedding" as they still look sharp and are modern and safe...and you can get a rather new car for shed money.

but they are considerably at "shed money" not a bad place to be, l love my 9-3, cost me so little, but offers so much and a perfect motorway companion, a lot more interesting than anything newer imo.

Bad Obsession Motorsport's latest video is about converting one of these to racing spec for a one make contest. They paid a lot for theirs I thought, you got a deal there.

Thanks. Looks lovely. Are those Mini wheels 16's?

One day I would absolutely love to do that with a C1!

Collected a new shed for the Deacon household over the weekend, Scenic 3 1.5 DCi, 39K miles, Full History, £450 Cambelt, £175 Service and Tow bar fitted in the last year. Last of the 1.5 DCi engines with no DPF.

First owner for 9 years was your stereotypical old person doing 1500 miles a year. Slightly over shed money at £2100.

Against all shed rules two of us spent 5 hours cleaning it, note the shed G101 APC replacement flash and pound land paintbrush detailing brushes. This car is going to be kept for best, the Blue one in the background is being relegated to being the tip run and dog car.

Late run euro 4 dag dags are a bit of a winner if you can nab one with no dpf, 1.8 tdci fords and 1.5 DCI Renault stuff are the ones i know about.

How hard is it to strip the seats out of that, would make a good van biggrin

Very easy, they are designed to come out. You literally tilt them fully forward and there is a lever underneath that unclips them from the hinges. I took them all out yesterday and carpet shampooed them in the sun.

I think they are fantastic cars, this is the third one my parents have had in a row. The fact that they are dirt cheap "because French" is a massive bonus.

Galaxy Grotrod has spat its dummy out today.......after me waxing lyrical to a mate about how bombproof its been even on a maintenance neglect servicing policy.

Was driving ok this morning got in 10 mins after it was driving ok and now its driving totally flat like its getting no boost.

Checked the wastegate wasnt stuck it was a bit stiff so lubricated and functioned.

Battery disconnected for an ecu reset.

Boost hoses and vac hoses in place.

Non of which seems to have worked.

Disconnecting the Maf seems to have restored about 75% power so I've ordered a pattern replacement.........we shall see.

That's a great looking car for the money and you're right, the good old british badge snobbery means french cars are sooo cheap. I was shocked at how cheap even 3 or 4 year old ones are compared to the opposition. I've been looking at french stuff myself recently because a) I like how french cars are styled and b) value for money.

Whereabouts are in the UK are btw? That road looks familiar.

Picked this up today for less than a grand. Has full history including a recent one and a years MOT.

It's a 1.5 and zips along just fine.

Had seen a few cheap ones knocking about and thought I would give one a go.

Quite impressed! Even the air con works. I also saw one on 180k miles, so hopefuly it
will be pretty reliable for a while yet as it is on 120k.

Yep.

I bought one of these for my daughter. Paid £1200 three years ago.

Hers is a 2007 1.5 and is now just approaching 100k.

Good little car and has been pretty reliable.

Needed a crank position sensor to restore inability to rev. Has suffered a couple of leaking rear wheel cylinders and needed a rear wheel bearing.

Apart from that it's just been routine maintenance.

Has a failing catalyst, but at this stage of the car's life will just ignore it unless it becomes an MOT problem.

Front subframe now pretty scabby. Should have Waxoyled it when I bought the car. I did grease over the rear brake pipes which has prevented them becoming a problem.

In many ways it's a superior car to my wife's R56 Mini Cooper.

Any pictures of the wood pack?
I suspect my Power steering pump is just old, i'll replace it eventually.
I wouldn't worry too much about the sun roof, I'd be surprised if it didn't work/stopped working.
I've started a readers cars thread, pictures of the wood on there.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Apologies it took a while to reply, as you'll see from that thread I have been battling rust on my new to me car and only just come to terms with it!

Have you checked the intercooler hose(s) closely, to check for splits etc?
