Second week into owning a £1100 2004 Forester XT with 130k on the clock...brought to stop destroying my wife's car after old age has forced me to swap BMX for MB.

N/S wheel bearing being changed today...fingers crossed any additional discoveries are cheap ones after last weeks aborted bearing change after discovering all the control arm fixings were seized.

Years ago when I used to do my own servicing on my old cars, I spent a tenner on Ebay and got a custom stamp made up with bascially my name and home address on it, eg. L.T. MOTORS, 123 HIGH STREET, LEEDS, LS1 1AA and house landline number hehe . Never once had a problem and I remember one guy commenting "I know it'll be a good one as you've got a full book of stamps for it" when selling it on some years later. People just want to see a stamp there and don't even bother looking to see what it says. Hand writing in the servicing will arouse suspicion that it hasn't been serviced because that's how people's brains work.
I like that!

Family friend runs a garage, specialises in psa group vehicles (inc racing 2cvs) as well as motorhomes and fleet servicing. They have about five stamps depending on if they are a 'Citroen Specialist' or 'Motorcome service centre' etc. Makes no difference on one level as its a top job either way, but people just like tidy stamps.

Hello shed friends.

E46 330Ci (manual + leather memory seats + working air con) for the princely sum of £900.

Picked up over the weekend. May have a little crankshaft position sensor issue but (fingers crossed) shouldn't be too difficult to sort.

Nine hundred nicker! That's a cracking and possibly relatively rocket powered shed if I ever saw one. Great fun to drive.

Looks nice. You'll be doing a Readers' Cars thread on it?

Managed to snipe a 2005 XC90 D5 SE GT for £1600 on ebay last week - gets delivered tomorrow. 1 owner, 150k miles, failed 2 MOTs in it's life - both for reg plate bulbs. Never seen it or had it inspected.

Bought it to lug 2.2m sheets of MDF to exhibitions over the next 6 months as they won't (legally...) fit in the V90. If I get 2 years out of it I'll be delighted.

That's worth looking after.

Thanks, might get round to doing one over the weekend. Should probably also do one for the E91 330 and the Z4 as well at some point.

Yes, Kwik Fit supplied Arrowspeed tyres apart, looks like it was maintained quite well by the previous owner.

Got some 17 inch Alpina Softlines in the garage so may end up putting those on at some point.

Check the aux belts and if they are cracked replace them along with the tensioner ASAP.

Shed 2 needs an exhaust today as the original Toyota exhaust has expired and fallen off. 17yrs and 77k miles can't grumble. Been quoted 165 quid fitted which is very close to a 3rd of its value lol. It's a good runner so well stand to an exhaust but I bet the replacement won't see 5yrs out.

Well it made it home, drives nicely. Needs and good clean inside and the bodywork is dodgy in places (wheel arches are crusty). Overall I'm happy. Misses hates it.

I've just fixed the exhaust with a bit of wire to get it home. The hanger bolt has corroded away that's all. The exhaust and shed live to fight another day!

Not sure what to do with my MK 2 Focus Shed, 54 plate. Brought in November last year, MOT approaching Nov 3rd this year

Air Con doesn't work and it's black
Little rust on the Front Arches
Crack in the windscreen developing

I've done 10K miles in it and I've not spent anything on repairs or consumables., brought it for 900 pounds. Even if I get rid of it for 300, it's only cost me 50 pp m for trouble free motoring. Judging by my experience, and the sheer number still on the road, these cars are supremely reliable.

That said, the windscreen, maybe a set of tyres, brakes etc could cost 500 at the MOT. I think I'll give it a run at the MOT, if it fails I reckon for a grand I could pick up maybe a 10 plate MK2, with working AC smile

C1 shed was in for MOT today and I thought I could hear some slight blowing from the exhaust so was expecting to budget for a new stainless system, but apparently there was nothing wrong with it and it's just the normal 3 cylinder thrum. Passed without a single advisory! spin I feel like it deserves a wash as a reward as it hasn't had one since I bought it, but I always seem to end up finding something more interesting to do instead hehe .

I still need to pop off the top rear brake light and reseal it to stop the rain from getting in and filling up the spare wheel well, but I've found if I park it facing down the hill outside, the rain instead runs along the roof to the front of the car and the boot stays dry! hehe

That reminds me. I must renew that duct tape holding the door mirror and rear wiper together.
