when and if you folks return to Italy for your summer hols look at the tyres on the (usually dented Italian) cars many of them will be running on winters, Their summers are hotter than ours for sure.
Yup, they usually keep them on all year round down there.
I noticed that in Rome in Feb this year. A high proportion of cars with winter tyres on. I run winters on the Clubman all year round. No abnormal wear and I remember driving in them in the 35C summer we had.

Mr retired folks recently got a 2.2 CDi Accord that era. They like it, very well built, oh and it hasn't got a DPF. My little car has........ frown

I like the Accord of this era too. Reviewed very well when new and IMO better than the over-sized model which replaced it. The only things to watch out for on the diesel are the aforementioned clutch slipping, inlet manifold problems, exhaust manifold cracking (expensive) and the dreaded DMF, which is par for the course with diesels and which Honest John reckons lasts for 80,000 miles.

Personally I would be looking for the rare 2.4 version... bit of a sleeper that one, being not a whole lot slower than the UK Type R Accord of the previous gen and much cheaper and less prone to corrosion. For the £450 that the guy on the previous page paid however, that sounds that a lot of car and a bit of a steal.

A question for all you esteemed shedists. I’ve been offered a 2006 Honda Accord 2.2 diesel, 180k miles, 12 months mot ( advisories were front number plate deteriorated, back tyres near limit), all books, 2 keys, new discs and pads last year, well serviced by my local mechanic. It drives really well, £450. I’ve no real need for the car, but I feel this is a good deal. What do you good people think ?
Cheers ,Andy.
Same engine I've got in my civic, it's excellent. Only thing to look out for on these is the clutch. Mine got changed at 103k, but was noticeably slipping from 54k. If you take it on a D/C and floor it in 5th/6th and it doesn't slip you'll be fine. Sounds like a great buy smile
Agree. Totally bulletproof other than the chocolate clutch! Check the rear calipers too - they like to seize!

My 2005 Tourer is on 195,000 miles on the original clutch, slips a bit here and there but still going.

Everything on it works and has worn well. I'd definetly have another.

How did you remove the tar? What did you use?

I have a large patch of tar on the back of my car - don't ask!

T cut works as does a small amount of white spirit, I've never had a problem using white spirit I just was that area after I've used it. Works really well.

You can buy tar removal products for cars. Any car cleaning/detailing website will sell it and Halfords probably will too.

Make sure you clean and wax the area afterwards if you're fussed.

I used to use a product called AutoSmart Tardis, but at work, they use white spirit to take it off a fleet of white coaches and it works perfectly, and yes just wash it afterwards and some wax if you're feeling generous. I washed my white Mondeo (sort of shed to me despite costing me €4k) and the amount of tar was horrendous! The joys of your neighbour DIY fixing the shared mile-long drive and the council not giving a monkey's about the local roads (fun to drive though, out in this part of the world)

Is it considered a shed if you take the 17" alloys off and put some 16" steelies on for the winter (for added don't-care-less look)

STIFree I want a set of the wheels that are on your Mondeo for mine though!

Always fancied one of these after driving one at work. How are you getting on with a 12yr old car for reliability etc, what's the mileage?

I'm so bored, I've spent the morning cleaning the interior of C6 Audi shed in a vague attempt to rid the wet dog smell. Changed the wiper blades also and moved one of the rear tyres to the front to ensure maximum tyre wear efficiency. Ordered windscreen chip repair kit of Amazon for £9 also. Still smells. Mileage is down as WFH now 3-4 days a week rather than site based, will still rack up 400+ this week (CNI job).

Shed currently working out at 10.5p / mile for diesel. Company still paying 13p for business miles, seems they have forgotten to drop it to 11p from 1st March. Guess they have other issues at the moment. 400 x 0.025 = 10.00 or two and a half pints if my favourite bar was open.

Debating whether to go for it and dye the headliner black, I hate the dull dirty gret it currently is. Would have to be an in-situ job, cant be arsed to remove it. I will have time over the next few weeks and can get some dye for £20.

Just discovered favourite bar is delivering favourite beer to doorstep, sod the headlining.....

There’s obviously maybe some logistical concerns on at the minute, but I’ve used a Vax Rapide ultra wet vac with the upholstery hose and attachment to get rid of wet dog smell from an old berlingo that was exclusively used for ferrying about some German shepherds.
A good hoover out and then some time with one of those and it came up great.
They’re about £90 refurbished on eBay usually. I paid £125 new.

It’s rescued 5 car interiors and countless house carpets so far; definitely worth the money.

Mate, I've done all the carpets, top to toe, driving me crackers. Couldn't give a st what the outside is like, but I like the inside spotless!!!! I think its actually the leather seats, I've been on all fours snffing carpets until I've got grazes on my nose. Previous owner had horses and dogs, I love both, dont get me wrong but they stink. I've been treating the leather every couple of weeks, even tried an air freshner bomb. Couple of weeks later its back. Arrrgggghhhh.

On a plus note, Amazon is delivering windscreen crack repair this afternoon via Prime. Only ordered it yesterday, fair play.

Shiny posh shed:-

Edit: Pics added of shiny posh shed - oh, and windscreen crack repair now arrived and done. Back to boredom.

They're nice wheels aren't they! I've been trying to get an extra set so I can have one with the winter tyres on and one with the summer set but they're bloody expensive, at least quarter of the price I paid for the whole car.

I have to laugh, I've got an invoice from last year, someone paid £200-300 I think, on refurbing the wheels. I got the car 6 months after that invoice and every wheel is curbed completely hehe But I like it that way because I don't have to worry about curbing them myself.

It's the most modern thing I've owned and even being 12 years old, the interior doesn't look too much different to new Ford's so you never feel like it's an old car.

It's on 175,000 now, I've done 5,000 in the past 4 months. I don't commute in it so the milage has been mostly just leisure days out and a drive to Munich, Germany and back.

For reliability, it's a tough one. It's certainly required more attention that previous sheds I've owned, nothing expensive just a handful of jobs. But I wouldn't like to say it's more unreliable than the other sheds as everything I've had to do to it has been perishables and thing's that go on every car.

I suppose me committing to owning for at least another year (I rarely own anything longer than 6months) is a testament to how good it performs as a shed. Also because now I've sorted all the niggles it should be trouble-free.

If you do go for one, look for a Titanium X (the top spec variant), they might trade £100-200 more than a base spec Ghia but it has all the cherries on top that make it a nicer car to live with.

Wonder if its a thought to change the panel filter? Could be old and manky and the cause of some of the smell?

I changed mine last week at the cost of £4 and it did look very old.

Another thought is putting a bunch of orange peels on the rear carpets for a week or so and hope the smell of them 'soak' into the interior.
