Wonder if its a thought to change the panel filter? Could be old and manky and the cause of some of the smell?

I changed mine last week at the cost of £4 and it did look very old.

Another thought is putting a bunch of orange peels on the rear carpets for a week or so and hope the smell of them 'soak' into the interior.
Thanks the 2.0 diesel?

Yes. I've noticed a lot of taxis are 2.0 diesel Mondeos, so they must last 200k+

Edit -

Sorting out some pictures. 3 years ago in my V70 shed and just recently in the Mondeo

I think I still do prefer the look of the V70

I bought one with 556k on the clock in 2015, and it was only seven years old at the time! As you probably know, the 2.0 diesel in those is basically a PSA HDI unit.

Just looking for some thoughts on a minor fault. I think it's just a bad battery.

W163 Mercedes ML270 CDI. I drove it yesterday for the first time in a few days and it was in limp mode (no warning lights, just changing up at 2200rpm and very sluggish).
Took the battery off and charged it overnight. Put the battery back on today and drove to the supermarket. It was fine on the way there but on the way back the limp mode happened again. I think it's from the battery voltage dropping.

I bought a trickle charger at the supermarket and I've put it on. It's only showing the battery as 40% charged.

For a while now I've noticed that the heater function when the car is off is only working for about five minutes where it used to manage about half an hour. This only runs until the battery drops below a certain voltage (11.8v IIRC).

I think I know the answer, but has the battery just finally had it? I'd been driving it 40-50 miles a day until parking it up this week and had three frosty nights. I have no idea how old the battery is, just that it's a big Varta

Mate, I've done all the carpets, top to toe, driving me crackers. Couldn't give a st what the outside is like, but I like the inside spotless!!!! I think its actually the leather seats, I've been on all fours snffing carpets until I've got grazes on my nose. Previous owner had horses and dogs, I love both, dont get me wrong but they stink. I've been treating the leather every couple of weeks, even tried an air freshner bomb. Couple of weeks later its back. Arrrgggghhhh.

On a plus note, Amazon is delivering windscreen crack repair this afternoon via Prime. Only ordered it yesterday, fair play.

Shiny posh shed:-

Edit: Pics added of shiny posh shed - oh, and windscreen crack repair now arrived and done. Back to boredom.

There's a YouTube channel that I watch - Autoshine Cars, and he regularly details Sheds. He normally removes the seats and wet vacs the carpets and uses a power drill with a brush to agitate it. https://www.youtube.com/user/autoshineblackpool/vi... I think he uses a Karcher wet vac.

Wow!

Quick maths, that's 80k a year or 220 miles per day, every day for 7 years straight!

Was it a taxi? How did it drive after that much milage? What showed the worst ware?

It was an ex-airport taxi which I bought at auction for £100 (nearer £200 after fees). It was in the no reserve section for UKCGR (webuyanycar.com).

It was a few years ago so I can't recall in much detail, but from what I remember it drove well, but looked like it had been resprayed by Stevie Wonder. I've just dug out the reg (LL08GUH) from one of my many spreadsheets to see how it's doing now. Disappointingly, the online MOT checker doesn't show any activity after I sold it.

I love a proper high mileage car. I think that's pretty cool. Shame it seems to be gone

Disappointed I looked it up now. I was hoping it would be up to at least 700k!

It was doing 40,000 miles every six months. If you put the reg into MOT check.

I hadn't really considered alternator as I haven't noticed a charging problem. I suppose it has to be a possibility

worth checking before you ruin a new battery.

Funnily enough £20 last week for an ebay carbon filter from China..... nah, still stinks!!!!! Orange peel seriously worth a go, family will think I'm madder than ever, but actually across the back seats could work. Cheers smile

Previous shed was a Mondeo 2ltr TDCI, 205k when it left me for £750, was still going strong. Needed a new clutch and the turbo was on its last legs, so traded it. Apparently, chap who had it, via mechanic friend, did the clutch himself and is currently tidying up the paintwork. Saw it last Monday, was looking very very tidy, chap couldn't believe the miles it had done. Just treated sympathetically from a mechanical perspective and serviced on the button. Kind of miss it. Great cars.

Never tried a Volvo, albeit a fellow two doors down, in his 70's has a '53 plate. In fact he is my old Biology Teacher from back in the day, lovely guy. He also has a '68 plate 218i. Thinking about making an offer, he doesmt need the V70 and the 218i. Knowing him, it will never have been driven hard. Maybe thats the next shed that will find me after this Corona thing is sorted.

The orange peel worked in the garage fridge after someone forgot about an open camembert cheese in there for 2 weeks. Stunk for a week even after getting rid of it. Plate of orange peel in there for a few days and it sorted it out.

When you say carbon filter, do you mean like these? https://www.lakeland.co.uk/21419/5-Replacement-Car...

They're the type for composters right? That's a bloody good thought, shame it didn't work.

But I was thinking about the cars OEM panel filter, should be able to get one delivered from Eurocarparts (they even do toilet roll now, seen an advert earlier!).

The clutch and dmf was done on mine last year by the last owner at the cost of about £1k. That's when they did the wheel refurb too. Total bill was £1200, I bought the car 6 months later for sub £900 hehe

But having that done is giving me hope that I've not got any big scary bills coming in the next year or two. Oh and that it wont leave me stranded somewhere on one of my trips to Germany!

The V70 sounds like a good punt, I'd imagine if its a D5 it'll be worth around the 1k mark. And if its been looked after and had the same owner for plenty of years it'll of been cared for. Then it's unlikely to cause you any issues. That was the case with my last V70 (albiet the previous gen, a 2000 petrol), same owner for 10 years, used for a couple thousand miles every year as he had a work van. Car didn't give any issues in my 8 months of ownership. It even sat parked up for 4 months, reconnected the battery and it started first time, then drove it 1,000 miles the next day without a problem.

Bloody impressive! Any major trouble?

Mine is 9 years old and 192k, and drives lovely.

DPF vaporiser still in box to do maybe this week if I can be bothered.

Fitted heated seat kit, parking sensor kit and dash cam already since I've been off!

Here's my shed. 2004 Megane II X84 2.0L Bought for AU$2400 with 133.600Km on the clock. The previous owner did a good job of keeping it tidy and when I bought it there was just one little dent in the passenger side front door.

With so much time on my hands and a pleasant (if cold) day the shed got a make over. Washed, clay barred, washed again, dried, paint renovator and then waxed. All by hand! Right side of my body feeling it today!
Just need to clean the glass of grubby kid prints and the hammerite is ordered for the towbar - sheds all over the country seem to be getting alot of attention this past few weeks!
