Annual MOT d-day yesterday for the old shed, 08 plate Skoda Superb 1.9tdi. Well, 18mths actually due to the COVID-19 extension.
I did my usual extensive prep - hoovered it and checked all the lights work, one of the reg plate lights was out but a few taps of the finger got it working. Washer fluid light came on 5 mins from MOT station so 85p of Aldi water was purchased. Back road blast on route in 3rd and 4th gear to warm her up and clean off the soot.
2hrs later, MOT passed, not a single advisory, happy days. The wife is sad, she wants it to die.
Noticed I havent changed the oil since April 2018 (less than 10k miles though) so I'm going to treat it now I know its got another years ticket to serve as the winter snow and tip run car.

Funny thing SAAB's they really do break the mould for "shedding" as they still look sharp and are modern and safe...and you can get a rather new car for shed money.
but they are considerably at "shed money" not a bad place to be, l love my 9-3, cost me so little, but offers so much and a perfect motorway companion, a lot more interesting than anything newer imo.

It does like to steam up though, can’t find any leaks or damp patches.
Change the pollen filter. They like to trap all sorts of things that do your lungs no great favours. Those things trap moisture, and this time of the year starts to steam up.A true first world issue indeed.

Interesting thread I have only just come across. I have embraced banganomics for a good few years now. Nothing better than a car that costs you pennies and you don't care that much about as long as it gets you where you are going safely and relatively comfortably.
I am currently rocking a Y plate Honda Accord 1.8S with 75k miles on the clock that cost me three months Fiesta lease payments - originally a station car, it is now my tip car.
My wife's old 2003 XC90 2.4D SE is sat SORN on the drive having been replaced by a newer one, but I am struggling to let it go - it has 165k family battle wagon miles and sports the associated scars, but if I can get the weird ABS issue sorted I am tempted to try and get another year out of it.

Air con doesn’t work so will try a regas and see if that helps.

Rover 75 Tourer is on my list of cars to own, I think they are cracking cars. Few inherent issues, but no more than any other car of the same era. Prices are all over the place though. A look on eBay shows some for £1000 or 'pristine' ones for about £3k - no thanks!gman88667733 said:

I bought one for my parents, Christmas 2016 for €495 at 172k miles. Now on 234k and as good as it ever was. Early 2004 pre-facelift. Done every single bit of repair and maintenance myself, clutch kit in 2017, clutch/solid flywheel in 2019. Looking a little tatty in places ideally needs a pair of back lights but they are rocking horse poop and 200 sheets a set and may spray the back bumper next summer. Mother has decreed that it will be kept as their daily until it's 20 years old, worth spending a few quid on to keep it ticking away well. Has an MG ZT-T interior and black steering wheel already fitted, and already had the XPower 135+ dealer remap. Starlight silver, and run 17" Volkswagen wheels in the summer and the original 16" wheels on winters. Retrofitted OEM xenon lights to it a couple of years ago. It does absolutely everything they need, though a bit estate it is not. BMW M47 unbreakable chain diesel and Mitsubishi turbo. And funnily enough, it drives as well as my Mondeo which is 7 years newer.
Been in the shed buying mood lately. Countless hours of scouring gumtree for the sub £1k dream. Found a "great" advert, MOT history looked clean etc. The weekend comes and I go visit the car. Turn the ignition and the check engine light is on, the seller doesn't seem to care at all. Wipes the code in front of me and says it's an easy fix. Obviously, alarm bells are ringing. If it's an easy fix just bloody fix it you lazy sod. Despite this madness, I considered making an offer but the seller refused to budge from the asking price! Even though none of the faults are listed on the ad. Absolutely delusional. Guess it's back to the sofa for me. Will recover from this traumatic event and browse again later in the year.
The fault really did look easy to fix. However, if you're going to "forget" to mention a check-engine light in the ad. Eugh. I hope other people have better luck with shed viewings.

The £325 Scenic shed went to car heaven yesterday. It was bought to remove all the garden rubbish instead of a 12 cubic yard skip
It was fine until last thursday when it simply refused to start, it would crank and crank but not start. Some poking around showed it was the crank position sensor. It also had a pretty bad oil leak and the electrics were developing "character" so it was time to let go.
In total it cost around £380 as I had it valeted when I bought it, put a new pollen filter in and new wiper blades.
So we had it for around 3 months, it did:
- 9 trips to the tip which cleared the garden
- 4 160 mile round family trips to the beach in summer
- Driven 20 mile round tips 3 times a week for the duration of its time with us
- Daily driving a few miles here and there as and when we needed to go somewhere.
It became our main car as our other car (2015 Golf GT TDI) has a DPF so didn't use it on short journeys, and after a while, it was a pain moving the cars around so we just drove the scenic - plus you never worry about car park dings.

Looking around shed territory and even up to about £5k now, cars seem to have jumped in value. Its almost impossible to find anything decent for sub £1k. Outside of shed land, I've been eyeing up a 08 E320 CDI estate with sensible miles for a while and sellers seem to have added £1k to the price in the last couple of months. Crazy times to buy a car, I think I'll wait till the new year.
