70mph motorway limit was 'temporary', wasn't it?
Yeah, for a ‘trial period’ that was drawn out to about 18 months before it became permanent.

So a lot more compliance with the speed limit (no surprise as people will get bored switching it off eventually) but nowt in there about associated reduction in accidents that I can see?

TX.

Edit - oh and you can see why they are picking on cars spin

A total of 360 TfL vehicles had ISA retrofitted by March 2022. The results below are based on approximately two years of data (June 2020-July 2022). Findings included:

A 62% reduction in speeding incidents. This ranged by speed limit with an estimated 60% decrease in speeding on 20mph roads through to an 89% drop on 60mph roads.
Yes speeds are reduced but what's the benefit?scratchchin

No increase in harsh braking, harsh cornering or harsh acceleration.
So ISA has not made matters worse. What a strange endorsementconfused

The average distance travelled and averaged journey time for each trip was reported to be largely unaffected.
So average distance per journey has not changed hehe Plus journey times are no longer related to velocityrolleyes
What a load of contrived crap. Sorry NMNeil but your case for ISA remains unconvincing...

I think you can if you look at numbers rather than rates. smile

Plus you have to ask who is killing pedestrians, if not cyclists.

Cyclists kill each other all the time. Disprove me! smile

Curious how this will work-very unlikely to be on North American spec cars. I usually do European delivery on my cars. Will they have temporary speed limiters removed when the car finally ships to North America?

It's convinced some that it's a good move, but of course if people just keep ignoring the lowered speed limits then mandatory speed limiters will surely happen.

Blatant anti-car measure as declared in the TfL document you referenced:

The project is part of the TfL's commitment to lower the speed limit by 10mph on a further 140km of the TfL road network by 2024

not sure how that would work - average speed would then be about 10/11mph yikes

"Water" is a bit general, isn't it?? Does that include people drowning whilst at the local pool?

I'd also argue that "air" is overstated, and it'll be "ground" that will be the cause of their demise

"Following implementation, TfL plans to carry out monitoring to determine whether further measures to reduce vehicle speeds are required."
Now that's an interesting statement. I wonder what other rabbits will be pulled from the hat in the future scratchchin

Doubtful. If some can't grasp what the 30 and 20mph signs mean then just replacing them with a big 10 mph sign will also be met with the same comprehension issues for some.
