Small world indeed; Matt was a pleasure to buy from as he was an obvious enthusiast and the car was so minty with only 30k miles on a new BMW replacement engine. The interior shot shows the only 3 things I changed on the car; leather gearknob and suede surround for the wooden items and sports seats for the comfort ones. Matt only sold the car as he was playing with a Porsche 928 at he time which needed funds iirc.

When the insurance assessor saw it we were both hopng it could be saved but that o/s front wheel was over an inch back from where it should be and the drivers door could not be opened due to a crease at the bottom of the 'a' pillar.

The engine and gearbox got bought from the breakers and put into a kit car but for the life of me I can't remember what type - I seem to recall an AC Ace/cobra type but could be wrong.

It broke my heart knowing it couldn't be fixed but I was hooked on E34 Tourings after owning that; I bought an M5 Touring to replace it and years later the only E34 Alpina Touring in rhd.

The world is getting smaller since Matt fixed the 1987 928 S4 Manual and then sold it on to Joel aka barchetta_boy on here. He had it for a couple of years and then sold it on to another chap from Australia who is on here, who then in turn sold it on to a Kiwi who is also on here...

As for the M5 Touring - missed the train in E34 form, but enjoyed my 2.5 yrs in a E61 immensely. They don’t make them like they used to...

And it possibly gets smaller...

If it’s the same Matt we’re thinking of, the day after you gave me a run in your E34 B10 a few years ago I was on a road trip with him across Germany and Austria in a load of CSLs

It is indeed - he got sick of me being quicker than him at the Ring in my then new Z4MC so he bought a really nice CSL, which he then moved on to a Kiwi going home permanently...

Aha, awful nice guy is Matt. Last I heard from him a few years ago he was looking at E34 M5s, but not sure if he got one

Hi, I know that I can sometimes come across a little bit anti-new when it comes to cars but I honestly, and apologies for not being around for a while and then coming back with a little bit of negativity and, yes, lovely Mangusta BTW, but how is it that BMW had such an elegant luxury saloon and they have, by means of a thousand (not that many) little cuts turned it from this..
Because of the Chinese and their 'tastes'.

They should start making a European version!

Still here trying to figure out how to acquire that 550M, Santa has WhatsApp now right?

Can’t think of a better spec and the perfect way for 2020 European race circuit jaunts.

Very much on thread youtube post

This is the place that's rebuilding Harry Metcalfe's Espada engine. They'll be doing some updates on projects and starts off with quite a detailed piece on a very original Miura that needs work. Looks like it could be quite an interesting channel to follow

That's brilliant James.

Muira's are just stunning... the rear 3 quarters were styled by God himself.

I think that may develop in to quite a nice geeky channel. I like the info about making the sharp edges softer, god love the Germans for trying to ruin a beautiful design in the name of keeping pedestrians safe laugh

That was a good watch - thanks.
What a wealth of knowledge must reside within that shed on a daily basis!

A couple of things that struck me were how elegant the doors are as a frameless design with the upswept rear edge and how strange a design the cast wheels are. They seem to make no obvious design sense and yet on the car they look perfect.

Off to look at Montreals to see how much a similar door aesthetic costs...

Edit:
Not that much. £58k

I was thinking similar recently wrt current BMW range.

E32/E38/E34/E39 et al are getting ever more appealing as the years go on.

Oooh that looks nice!

I'd still take an e32 as a daily. I had a silver one with blue leather and the 3.5 lump a few years back. Not quick, but it was a lovely thing to mooch about in.

BTW: not been in here for a good while. I hope you fine fellows are all doing well. wavey

I'm resolutely avoiding the 21st century when it comes to motoring: my current conveyances are a TD5 Defender and a 1969 Beetle.

That’s a cool pairing you have yes

An E32 would be lovely, and a tidy reasonably priced one would have my wallet twitching I must admit

Thanks! Here they are together. It's fair to say neither is exactly sprightly, despite the LR having a mild remap and a Disco transfer box for more relaxed cruising (everything's relative), and the Bug having a 1914cc twin-carb set-up... Fun though!

Cool Beetle, you don't see many with over riders on the Europa bumpers. I quite fancy another Beetle, I just don't have the room for one sadly

No idea how much of the chrome work etc is original - I'm assuming not much! As far as I can tell, it was shipped to Mozambique early in its life, then to Portugal and then into the UK about 3 years ago. The engine was put in last year with new suspension and brakes all round, and the interior was largely replaced early this year. The bodywork is excellent and underneath is solid and (it seems) unwelded - rare for a RHD bug!

It skips along when warmed up - but a complete bugger when cold (no chokes).

I have never ever driven anything that attracts nearly so much positive comment, waves and general appreciation. It really is a very happy little car... when the engine's warmed up.

That looks sweet, 1914 should scoot along nicely. When its warm laugh

Mine had a 2276 with 48 IDA Webers. I don't think I'd have another with that much power again though
