RE: Bentley Continental GT Convertible: Driven
Discussion
This looks great, inside and out, definitely an improvement on previous iterations in that regard. I have a particular soft spot for ostentatious luxury cars, if I had the funds for such an expensive car then a GT or GTC would be high on the list for sure.
I'm not usually into convertibles but cruising about in this in summer with the roof down does seem very appealing.
I like the above colour, but not on a Bentley for me. I'd go with a more traditional darker green or blue, maybe BRG...

If I had the money...
...I'd be spending it on a DB11 Volante instead. This looks better than the last Conti GT, but to my eyes it still has all the shapeliness of a worn bar of soap. Mind you, my eyes must work differently to the author's - from the photos, that interior looks to me like a generic German luxo-barge. The DB11 Volante is infinitely prettier and no matter how clever Bentley's chassis engineers have been, over 600kg of weight saving will make the DB11 more enjoyable to drive.

Here's the irony - the DB11 dash and console are based on a Merc system and interfaces!...I'd be spending it on a DB11 Volante instead. Though I agreed the DB11 looks great, it is colour sensitive and you are limited to a V8 turbo engine
Wow, nobody has mentioned footballers, that is progress.
I liked the original but this is magnificent, yes its gloriously ostentatious, at the last check it wasnt a Dacia alternative but they have really made huge strides in how it looks, the old one had a gravitas about it but this adds some flair and a bit more menace.
There was one locally wanted to show me how fast it was, it was, but it went a little bit sideways and he lost his enthusiasm a bit, surprised me but it was cold and it weighs quite a bit and has 600 odd bhp.

Nearly 2.5 tons!!! Might be better with the V8 twin turbo like the previous one and losing 500kg. Looks way better than the old one though.
You sound surprised? Massive, convertible, luxury GT cars with shed loads of tech, a 12 cylinder engine with turbochargers, loads of wood and leather is never going to be an Elise.mikey k said:

Ideal combo would be DB11 Volante looks and drive but with the Bentley dash. AM current interiors are a little disappointing, which is a shame as that's what used to help them feel special.
With you on that one!The new vantage has 36 buttons on the lower console alone!
I think it reasonably elegant too for what it is. Bentley's have always been very large luxury cars, no one can be really be surprised at the size and weight of this, surely?
I think it's good that Bentley have maintained their brand status by not goning any further down the line of producing smaller, cheaper models than the Conti GT.

It drives like crap as well, under steer then over steer in the corners round Silverstone
