beautiful rear design.I'd want one even though then it must be frustrating to drive on the road.

Why would it be frustrating to drive on the roads?

When you're in a car that could happily take on a string of corners in 3-digit speeds, it is not going to feel very "alive" at license-retaining speeds.

disappointing. Looks like a facelift 488 to me. Especially don't like the huge vents on the rear arches, the 458 was a much cleaner more aesthetic design in my eyes.

Disagree. Coming up to a corner, braking with your left foot (brake pedal perfectly placed for this) a few pulls of the paddle with the perfect downshifts is great fun regardless of speed. It's all about the sense of occasion rather than flat out speed. Plus you can floor it when you want to, just don't do it in front of a copper.

1) It is a facelifted 488
2) the vents over the rear arches are the same as 488, and they exist because of all the extra airflow the 488 required over the 458 (and they never sat well with me, but it's nothing new).

It’s a bit strange.

There’s always one facelift and then a new model (348-355, 360-430, 458-458) so this should be completely new.

I like the "Tributo" aspect of the rear lights, homage to cars of old.

I like quite a lot of other bits of the car too ,what's not to like ?

Is every new 8-cylinder Ferrari going to look like the 458 from now on? laugh Still, if it ain't broke don't fix it. I'd be annoyed if I had just bought a Pista. Looks mega.

I have to agree, I am rather disappointed , it is not a stunner like the 458 was when it replaced the 430. Of course it will drive like hell and it is more beautiful than a McL (even if when you see them on the street they are impressive, but I always find them too ornate), but I was expecting much more from the 458 successor.

In my opinion it will stay on the market just a couple of years, maximum 3, to fill the gap before a V8 hybrid and true 458 successor is ready

Looks awesome to me, was never that sold on the 458, 488 a bit better but this hits the spot.

But the name, anyone else thinking Tenacious D ?

This is not the greatest car in the world, no, this is just a Tributo.

Am I the only one who thinks these cars are just getting way too powerful? 720bhp in what is traditionally the baby Ferrari, 800 in the big GT. I can't help but feel they need a smaller mid mounted V6 car in the 400-500bhp range with a focus on much lighter curbweights.

I love the Alpine concept of light weight fun over power but I'd prefer something with the atmosphere (if that's the right term) of a Ferrari.

I prefer the 570s over the 720 for example but McLaren are just lacking a bit of soul that Ferrari's have always managed to pull off somehow.
Looking at the big picture, this isnt just about Ferrari. FCA have a few options to play with, and could just as easily serve that market through the Alfa brand.

When you consider that the Ferrari entry level is now well above your BHP suggestion, I don't think Ferrari will produce something in the 400-500 bhp range ever again, unless it's some kind of badge "engineering" exercise with a smaller brand.

If there was an Alfa 4C replacement coming, I'd think this might fit your suggestion pretty well. Alternatively, if you don't mind letting go of the mid-ship engine requirement, there's a very tasty sedan with around 500 bhp for sale right now.
I understand they're working on hybridised V6 using the 2.9 Giulia QV engine as a basis. It won't be the Ferrari 4C+ but it will be a 488/Tributo- with about 600PS I'd expect. The debate is whether it's worth going over the 10k/year volume limit they're restricted to by US regs I'd venture when they could hit that selling more profitable car lines.

A 7" passenger touchscreen - any idea what on earth this for?
Based on the other Ferrari models it can optioned on, at about £3k eek it allows the passenger to see speed, revs, and other bits and bobs like that, and allows them to control the sat nav and the radio. wink

Those vents are the best bits imo and is why the 458 is so bland in comparison as too the 720s. The 720 needs such side vents not those ugly side flaps it currently has.
