Think you're missing the point a little bit. I doubt very much they set out to create a great drivers car for the road. I also doubt they set out to create a restomod to compete with Singer et al. The point is to do something crazy like stick an F1 engine in an old 911 and make it road legal. Better still, not any old F1 engine but a Porsche F1 engine! It's interesting from an engineering perspective and it will be bonkers to drive. May yet still make a decent drivers car for the road but who knows till there's a road test? (here's hoping!)Not really that impressed, to be honest. ~500 horses? Regular road cars from BMW do that all day every day with warranty, etc, so they haven't exceeded anything there.
Last I checked, those same BMW's are nowhere near a million quid, either.
Provenance? Really?! The engines aren't original, nor are they in the chassis they competed with. It's a Frankenstein build.

You're missing the point too. In qualifying trim that engine would put out something like 1500hp. It's been detuned for longevity and usability. Worth noting too that if you're going to compare with a BMW then the most powerful 1980s M cars made 286hp.Last I checked, those same BMW's are nowhere near a million quid, either.

Really don't understand what people aren't getting here

If they kept the engines in race tune people would moan that they are undriveable and would need a rebuild every 1000 miles.
Can’t win on PH sometimes.
In fact why buy any old performance car? After all, many are very tricky on the limit.
Forget that F40, just buy an M5 saloon...

“It has also fitted smaller turbos that spool up quicker and added a new crankcase.” It’s not really an ex F1 engine imo. Original pistons, crank, cams etc etc?
It’s still a lovely car and a great example of what they can do, but it’s not what the headlines promise.
The engine had 7 races it would need all this stuff ow it would blow that carbon fibre bonnet of it on the first outingIt’s still a lovely car and a great example of what they can do, but it’s not what the headlines promise.
Marvellous engineering and the sound....
Wonder how they managed the exhausts and manifolds

I don't care what it *could* have. I'm more interested in what it *does* have.
Really don't understand what some people aren't getting here...
