Every time I try and do some man-maths to buy a new Porsche I fail.

A new 992 is just too rich for my blood, and I cant bring myself to buy a new four pot cayman/boxter. Surely I'm not the only one and, as a result, their new car sales will fall?
They'll sell a bucket load of Macans, Cayennes & Panameras then there's the Taycans.

I did the man maths - a £50K Macan loses £10k over 3 year/60kmiles, as does a £25K Ateca. How would you rather lose £10K?

Indeed - you are spot on. However it is depressing to see involvement and driving pleasure taken out of what used to be excellent driving cars. I guess those who care about things like steering finesse and handling over grip will become ever more outlying statistics.

Sad times.
Hahaha have you driven the 992? I'd hardly call it devoid of driving pleasure!!! Name me another car that can take my three kids to school and give so much pleasure? And have great residuals. And look so good. And be bullet proof. That's right, there isn't one.

Had a good poke around the new 992 at GIMS and was surprised at the quality of some of the plastics, especially around the centre console, which felt positively cheap. The rear vents above the engine feel as cheap as they look and the engine lid shuts with the delicacy of the door to a first gen BMW Z4, anyone who has been around those will know what I mean. The quality seemed a bit lacking for the money. Has anyone else noticed the same? Does look good though, in Coupe form at least.

Just waiting delivery of a guards red C4S cab (992) after selling an AMG GTC the comparisons should be interesting, which will be the best car I wonder ??

Would definitely look better in an other colour , that yellow looks awful .
Love the yellow but you are right it should be in "Resale-Grey" or "Residual-Black".
Strange one as I normally love yellow cars I had a yellow caterham not so long ago , but I think on a 100k porsche it lacks a bit of class , it reminds me of a big Tonka toy I once owned , can't be to many orders for that colour .

I do think the yellow looks v good, but not sure I could bring myself to own one. I test drove a 718 Boxster S in the same Racing Yellow with black roof before buying a Cayman S. In Sapphire Blue, I might add.
The yellow did garner more attention - good and bad - on that one test drive than I think I ever got in 12 months of ownership of the Sapphire blue Cayman. Almost every person I drove past either pointed and laughed, pointed and stared, pointed and gave a thumbs up, or just pointed.

I think the 992 looks incredible, and I might just have to go for it in a year or two in coupé form, but in something other than yellow.

Something more like this perhaps ...

Not great in that colour, but the larger rear hood has echoes of the 1980s Speedster IMO.

yellow seems to be the colour that cabs look striking in , remember the first pics of the 997t cab ,and the Boxster S 987 were in speed yellow , they certainly bring attention to themselves, which is part of the game i would think, I would love another 997 in yellow ,like hens teeth mind, unless you have 100k that is.

Buy a Boxster if you want a smaller, lighter convertible Porsche with a flat arse......
^^^ This. I did! driving

As regards 911 the Targa looks a lot more attractive (to my eye) than the convertible, but
  • It's very expensive, and
  • The complicated electric roof can only be raised/lowered when the car is stationary.

What fking planet do you live on!
Earth. Peak out from behind your blinkers and try it sometime wink
I can see both sides of that, I dont think they are cheap by any stretch, but they are much more accessible, for more people, not everyone but many more than 30, 20 or even 10 years ago.

How often did you see a new 911 as a kid ? I was a teenager in the eighties and can remember seeing Porsches and it was good spot, used to pedal up to Ian Anthony in Wilmslow (Now a Tesco) to catch a glimpse.

Nowadays the roads are teeming with them, and load of other expensive metal that you just didn't see in the past.

Either I live on another planet, or maybe many of those who think a 911 cabriolet is somehow not a drivers car have never driven one.

The whole image thing is as outdated as Rees-Mogg.

Not really a 60,000 mile 3 year old Macan that listed at 50k would be worth less than 30k at trade.

Here's an example 58,000 miles, retail would have been around 53k with that spec back in 2016 on sale for 36k the dealer will have given 30k max so a loss of 23k not 10k.

My 911 lost £38k in 3 years and 55k miles....don't let man maths fool you.

The rear hump is exactly the thing about 911 Cabs indeed. I find it repulsive.

I love the new range. I’m finally at an age/wealth where these are on my radar. Just the Carrera really rather than the s.

Just a quick general 911 question to fellow PHers. Which options are a necessity? (I know, sorry.)

I’ve been on the configurator and all I really would choose is a colour and some wheels. Maybe privacy glass. Everything else I wouldn’t know what I’m missing. Maybe the sports seats?

Bose, Sport Chrono, Sports Exhaust I think would be some of the most popular options. I wouldn't spec privacy glass personally and think the rear looks much better with the SportDesign package (others will disagree!)

Positive man maths indeed! The first owner of my Macan lost about 20k in 1 year assuming a dealer margin of £8-10k at resale. They still seem to be selling a same age/spec Turbo pp for around £2-£3k less than what I paid 10 months ago. So a £10-12k hit in 12 months for me inc dealer margin. Just don't forget that dealer margin with the man maths!

PASM is usually a default addition too, though I'm not sure if the 992 comes with PASM as standard and its the extra 10mm lowered PASM that is an optional extra.
