Looks great, I like the fact that it's a super clean shape with no nonsence.

Porsche need to get into the £zillion oligarch/oil sultan hypercar game, everyone else is doing it now.
Agree with the super clean shape comment. Hopefully we would see more of these clean design (eg. Birdcage concept from 15 years ago) in all segments and types of cars/SUVs/trucks. But, I'm not sure Porsche needs to join the £million club as it doesn't need to prove to anyone it's the best by setting a fastest top speed, quickest 1/4 mile acceleration or highest hp...

No, just the 1970 winner. The 1971 winner was plain white with a bit of Martini striping.

I love (several) classic Porsches, but this render looks poorly proportioned to me. Good one for a Hotwheels version though.

Think I'm definitely in the minority. I just think meh. Looks like a generic hot wheels race car.

Posted my reply without seeing yours. At least I'm not the only one with the hot wheels thought

I rather liked that as well

The problem I have with many of the current generation hypercars is that if you scratch off the name (Mclaren, Aston, Ferrari etc) they all look rather similar. Maybe mid engined build/ current aero knowledge gets them all to the same place, but it's nice to see Porsche looking at their heritage and moving it forward a few generations. You could argue that like their slow evolution of the 911 it lacks imagination, and no doubt a production version of this 917 would have more air intakes / wings. But imho as this design stands it looks brilliant....now build it!

But take away the Herrmann/Attwood livery and it could still almost be a McLaren.

The Can-Am car was the 917/30, not 917/13 as stated in the article
To be pedantic, the 917PA Spyder, 917/10 and 917/30 were all Can-Am versions of the 917 but you're correct that the author apparently was told 30 and heard 13.

Totally agree. It's nowhere near as stunning as a real 917K in Gulf livery which may be the most beautiful Porsche ever made.

Nice to see the 918 "penis" wheels have made a comeback too! biggrin

Ha, the penis wheels are the only detail that I'm not so keen on, I don't hate them but they have a bit of a fussy road car look, I'd prefer a set that looked a bit more purposeful/racey/track orientated on this.

I am more drawn towards this one

The 917LH that came 2nd at Le Mans in 1970 in that livery also had electro-luminescent number roundels that glowed green in the dark. coolrolleyes

No wings, no ugly air intakes....just beautiful
Must be said, the original body of the 917 did have a wing.
More a flirtatious lip on the back I'd say....
First cars had more than a flip smile

Pity they didnt work well.

917/30 definitely the second generation Can Am car with closer to 1200 bhp as I recall. I also believed there were only ever two built, for Penske, in the glorious blue and yellow Sunoco livery. Wrong. Turns out there were quite a lot of spare parts left over from when the project was canned, including (I think) three chassis. My mate's girlfriend had one (really)! It ran in the USA in Historic CanAm events and was usually seen exiting the last turn of any given circuit on lap one of the race, with the next car in the race arriving some considerable time later.........

As for this 50th Anniversary concept? Please, please build a few and show us how something like this really should be done.
