I reluctantly went along to the dealership with the wife to take a look at this as her next car, and was quite suprised how nice it was. I am still trying to get her into the new xc40 instead as no doubt the options list will be eye wateringly expensive on the evoque.

They're already in the dealers? I knew this new model was coming, but missed the big reveal completely (which Autocar informs me was in November).
I see positives & negatives. The good: no 3 door, which means no cabrio. Hoping it stays that way. The bad: it's very similarly proportioned as the last one, so interior room still won't be great.
It'll sell just fine I think, as did the last one. I hope it does, for JLR's sake.

Drove through the Land Rover factory at Halewood the other day, couldn't believe my eyes. There were thousands of new Evoques parked up waiting for delivery. In my opinion it doesn't look as good as the old one. The only one that caught my eye was a dark metallic red one with black wheels.

Any pictures of the new one?
Excellent comment I'll steal that if I may, for absolutely every new iteration of the 911 Porsche launches.
Yep perfection is hard to improve on.

And evolution is hard to identify.

Its shame they don't do a 3litre V6 version really. Im sure the softness of this new model will look good over time, but I think I prefer the original shape, certainly in 4 door guise.

The "all new underpinnings" are not new, other than in name.
Yes they are.
How did they manage to develop a completely new platform so quickly? Why is it so heavy? Why is there no mention of it being designed for fully electric propulsion? Why do Autoexpress describe is as a heavily modified D8?
These are good questions. It also can't be an all-new platform because they're going to phase it out mid next decade in favour of the MLA platform to cover pretty much everything, ie ICE, PHEV, EV.
The whole car is pretty much brand new. The chassis, bodywork, interior are brand new just the ingenium engines are passed across.
There's no Ford in the Evoque!!!

How can any reasonable person say such a stupid thing? Are you completely shallow and devoid of personality?

Nobody would force you to purchase one you know.

Doubtful they'll do a V6 as the evoque uses a transverse engine.
F type uses longitudinal based engine so would suit the v6
Having seen the new Evoque, I actually prefer the new one. It has a very classy look about it.

70% urban and no hybrid or all electric varient? This strikes me as better suited to that than the F Pace, so why is it there and not here? With the Macan due to go all electric they could have stolen a march.....

If the official combined MPG is 30, what's it going to be like in the real world? I was genuinely shocked at the fuel consumption when I drove the last Evoque having come from an X3.

Perfectly pitched for the buyers they target. A mate is thinking of changing his X5 for one and isn’t interested in it’s weight, MPG or CO2. Badge, image and tech are all he wants.

I think this looks rather nice. My parents had one of the old ones, a top spec petrol and while it was too crashy on uneven surfaces it was a very nice little car. Yes they looks expensive but very few people will be buying these for cash at full price, these things are leased more than Porsches. They also seems to hold their value better than the bigger JLR products.

While I understand that JLR have some reliablity issues I really don't get why they are so heavily bashed on here, they can't sneeze without being abused by the PH massive. Between my parents and I we've had 8 LR products and had very few issues with them. It's not as though other car manufacturers have infinitely reliable cars and most of the issues stated with LR's are annoying electrical bits rather than leaving you dead at the side of the road.

In contrast my brother had a 2 year old 28k mile Fiesta throw a piston through the block. My other brothers Ranger broke numerous times leaving him stranded at the side of the road (clutch master cycliner on transit engines anyone?) and his replacement A-Class was recalled three times and had 2 full electrical meltdowns which meant he couldn't get in it! Needless to say he owned it less than 3 months in the end.

I really hope this sells well for Land Rover and helps them bring forward more hybrid and EV products so I don't have to pay extortionate company car taxes.

It's not a new platform. But as Mr Moose says above, maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe they've improved it to the point it does everything JLR needs it to do right now (ie be cost-effective without too many drawbacks)

Here's JLR's platform strategy (this is the D8).

I had a nose around one while killing time at a dealer last week.
It is a sleeker looking thing with Velarish hints while retaining its original shape more or less. The inside seemed much improved.
