****ing Insurance

In Turkey car insurance is based on the person not the car. So a person gets 'car' insurance and then can drive any car they like at any time.......??
That must lead to a lot a very angry Citroen C1 owners and a lot of very happy supercar drivers. But surely a system like ours, where the details of the driver and the car are taken into account is better.
So, it seems:
Some countries insure the person, not the car, and having bought insurance you can drive anything. Unfair for drivers of small cars, good for drivers of performance cars.
Some countries insure the car, not the person, so having insured the car, anyone can drive it. Unfair on mature low risk drivers, great for young high risk drivers.
UK, both the person and the car are insured so taken into account.....Surely the fairest solution.

..... I was explicitly told that this would be going down as a non-fault claim.
Exactly the same thing happened to me.By the time 5 years had elapsed my premium increase had more than covered the cost (£600) of repairs. Utter rip off. Insurance is based on the principle of you don't claim, they keep your money - you do claim they lose out. This way is win/win for them and just legalised theft really.

Yup, I got a policy from what I though was a premium & prestige specialist.
I had to do all of the leg work for my insurance & accident(x-loosecoins) management company over what should have been a straight forward non fault claim.
If I hadn't spent literally days on the phone between companies doing there work for them I'd have had to swallow 50/50 for someone coming onto my side of the road, hitting me and driving off.
They reported themselves to the police when they saw the damage to their own car. Guess who comes out worst in Merc V's Pug?
Anywhoo, £3k of repairs for a wing mirror to my car, £13k for my courtesy car plus the repairs to the at fault parties car & a claim for my loss of income, all because the walloper who hit me thought he/she could get off with it.
I am not looking forward to renewal time, especially as days after my car was returned to me after the repair some gentlemen arrived at my house at 5am to unburden me of it.
£13k for your courtesy car? Really, £13,000?I had to do all of the leg work for my insurance & accident(x-loosecoins) management company over what should have been a straight forward non fault claim.

You are part of the reason that your renewal is going to be a fair chunk more…
This was with an accident management company.
I think it's unfair that my renewal would go up as a result of something outside my control i.e. being hit by another driver, who wants to try his luck in the hope I'll share or assume liability.
I'm sure these accident management companies are part of the reason insurance costs so much, they charge a fortune. The worst of it is they didn't even do anything to pursue my claim. I did all of the legwork and sorted it out myself. They provided my with a courtesy car, then after a few weeks started chasing me with vigour because the claim hadn't been resolved yet. The experience taught me that insurance is a very murky world full, I couldn't keep track of which company was doing what as others seemed to become involved.
Another reason my premium will go up at renewal is that my car was nicked less than a week after it had been returned from it's repair... Again through no fault of mine.

Are you willing to pay extra for car insurance, to subsidise 17 year olds? It's not their fault they are 17. Are you willing to pay extra for travel and life insurance so those with serious medical problems (thru no fault of theirs) don't get penalised?People always moan about getting charged extra for something that's no fault of theirs, but expect others to have to pay extra for things that are not their fault.

FWIW, the one time I did have a claim that was my fault I expected my premiums to go up. They did, I sucked it up. Fair enough.
I understand your point but it's made poorly.

I only have insurance because I have to. I fiddle the st out of the comparison websites to get the cheapest quote possible. I live in London so I try to put my address as somewhere low risk in the sticks. This year they thought they were clever by asking for proof of address with a utility bill... photoshop fixed that lol. Call it fraud or whatever, I call it winning.
It's fraud and you're a grade one .fiju said:
