The engine is what makes these cars, that B58 is a stunner.

I love mine (440i), one minute effortless cruiser, the next, noisy straight six with buckets of torque and revs to 7k+

Couldn't have a 4 pot again I don't think.
Enjoy it while you can....
That was quite ominous - are you going to take his car away?

I know the Supra gets a lot of stick for its looks but tbh I think it looks better than the Z4

Starting to look like a Mercedes. Not pretty. I like the rear the most.
Interior is pretty ugly, to my eyes.
At least the weight is reasonable for a new car. Still too heavy, though, but not bad for cruising, if you can get over the looks. I can't.

...and yet my other half thinks I should spend time with the kids. It's an outrage.

Not sure why this has 340bhp when the pending M340i has 370. The article states they are the same engine.

Guessing different map but seems strange it’s been reigned in on the Z4.

I'll be buying mine outright at the end, no way am I swapping into a 4pot "M" anything!
Yeah! It'd be a damned bloody disgrace if BMW ever put anything less than a "6" in an M car!

Has there ever been a thread for a mainstream new car where some wag hasn't piped up with a moan about how heavy it is?

Can that bloke see out of the car?
thats the motoring journalist i once drove a race car seating position, the trend started by chris harris who drives to the shops with his seat set to the racing position
I sat in one of these yesterday. It feels huge, the dashboard is really high and imposing, its hard to see out of and the bonnet also seems to be very large. It certainly isn't a small 2-seater/roadster. TBH I think that might put people off.

There seems to be a persecution complex with petrolheads, soft or assuming that "the man" wants to take our toys away, and its been said year on year, from when I first appeared some years ago on PH, guess what we can still buy interesting cars !

As long as there is a market, manufacturers will service it, as long as the cars can meet the regulations we will still be allowed them, the governemnts likes the revenue from car sales and fuel sales. Even in an electric future there will still be IC engined cars.

Every car has similarities to other cars, it's unavoidable by the restrictions to pedestrian safety and the airflow requirements to reduce drag and improve CO2 etc...

This is a great example of brand "conformity". Choose your favourite...

^^ that's a great post, so true as well, shows just how much of motoring is just white goods to most people.

This

Nearly every thread. It's 2019 not 1999. What do people seriously expect? Unless it was a weekend/track car only, I personally couldn't care how much a car weighs, modern cars seem to do a pretty good job in disguising their mass anyway.
