Talking of barge meets; where and when are they? I'm not averse to supplying plants with plenty of CO2, but reasonable striking distance of the Essex / Suffolk border is good.

I have a hankering for another twelve banger, but not a Beemer after my last couple, must be XJR quick as a minimum; ideas gents / ladies?
You should buy BigBen's S600TT and he's not that far away in Cambs.
That is an excellent idea. You should. It laughs at the speed of XJRs and other lesser barges.
That could be worth a look, I'm sure that it's featured on PH somewhere, but I can't find it; PM me some details?

I’ve posted this before at a higher price, suffice to say F10 530d (sorry) SE manual at 4595. That’s cheap!

With a very decent MOT history too, albeit that it's done 15k since it's last one.

Looks like an error in the price though, should be £5,495. Still a decent price tbf and tempting if my mileage increases.

This sort of thing is good news.

It's going to be good timing, just as our W211 is getting a bit tired, and the W212 is looking so deeply uninspiring, and the E60 is continuing to be so very very deeply uninspiring, and the XF estate continues to be too expensive, and the A6 continues to be, well, an Audi, that the mainly pleasant, mostly tasteful BMW hoves into view.

I reckon a high spec (if I can find one) 2.0d auto SE is going to be Mrs Jim's next battering ram. It's as fast as her 3.0 Mercedes, and something like 50% better on fuel, and about a third of the road tax. Can't be bad.

I won't tell her she can't have 7 seats until she's got her heart set on one, so by then it won't be the big deal she says it is at the moment. Watch this, son. A puppet-master at work.

Current things on my mind, firstly non-barge

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

This looks crusty as fk on the sills, was mentioned in the previous MOT, but has mysteriously passed the latest MOT with no mention... It doesn't say it is a sport, but it has the white dials?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Low mileage, super cheap, good MOT history. Has a fair old dent that looks like it should be able to pull out ok?

Barge related:

This looks pretty damn good for £700!

Look how comfy those seats appear to be, for £650

That silver MX5 needs scrapping, that's a sniff of salt away from fizzing out of existence, never mind the disgusting interior. The green one looks decent, a paintless dent repair on the wing will likely sort it (sufficiently anyway).

10 minutes with a kettle of hot water and maybe a quick push from inside the boot and you'd probably get it out yourself.

I would postulate that there's a much smaller difference economy in the real world - the 4-cylinder will have to work harder day-to-day than the 6, and narrow that gap.

It's worth the effort! Technically too cheap, but the required work gets you firmly in budget.

Exactly that! If a barge is priced under a grand, it's still a 1-5k barge by the time you get it actually working...

Also re the F10, be very aware of the timing chain issues with the diesels.

Yes, but Mrs Jim’s Mercedes is, predictably, flumped. smile

Any old-MB owners in need of an old-fashioned stereo radio/cassette?

I just found a Blaupunkt Cambridge SQM 26, which would have been kept on one side from one of my 190Es (probably the one I used for spares and then scrapped). It looks like this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RETRO-BLAUPUNKT-CAMBRID... and would have been working when I removed it and decided to keep it.

If you are restoring your MB, and it would suit, let me know here and you can have it for free.

I'm pretty sure that's only the 4cyl models, as far as I'm aware the 6cyl ones are fine?

Negative captain, they all share the same hardware. I thought this too when I bought my 6cyl e91, but they are a modular unit with the same timing chain mechanism.

Jolly generous old chap, nice one.

r129sl will get back soon from his holiday. He'll know all about that radio. And, hopefully, will then tell us all about it. smile

On a slightly more serious note, some of these are worth quite a lot of money, so might be worth checking before offering it for free.

I remember reading they all use the same chain (same part number etc), but I want aware the 6cyl ones had issues with them? Interesting.

I reckon the long life servicing has a lot to answer for regarding stuff like this.

They're less common because they've generally been geared lower, and they have a separate gear on the camshaft, the N47 has one machined on which is that bit rougher.

Long life servicing had much to answer for, but it's just designing to reduce emissions by using lighter components in the chain system.

Any love for a doom blue LS at a seemingly reasonable £695 before haggle?

This also looks rather fresh and certainly a very efficient way of turning money into noise.

Seems cheap too, although I am suspicious of the lack of history.

What could go wrong?

A pox be on all your gearboxes! Please tell me why this wouldn't be the perfect daily driver for a city dweller with only onstreet parking like me?
It'll be out of budget by the time you fix all this lot!

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
Nearside Front Steering rack gaiter damaged or deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.1.3 (g) (i))
Offside Front Steering rack gaiter damaged or deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.1.3 (g) (i))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
Nearside Front Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
Offside Front Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
Nearside Rear Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
Offside Rear Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
Nearside Front Anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Front Anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))

Gatesheed is so close I'd be losing money by not buying it.
If that's all that's wrong with it it's probably the best one available!

Get it getted.
Not a bad not I've had worse on a daily get t bought
