Chaps, a slightly random request. I need a phone holder that clips securely into the Lexus vents so that I can use maps. I seem to recall from the mists of time that someone recommended one to (I think) Speckled Jim; does anyone know, or can you recommend something else please?
Sorry for the slow response. I was very happy with the MegaMount as recommended by someone else here.

Slightly disappointed that it wasn’t a character from the post-watershed version of Transformers, but as a phone holder it’s bloody great.

Thanks to all those who responded with the various recommendations; I'll try one of the MegaMounts. This thread truly is the font of all (important) knowledge.

Been to a wedding reception this evening and thought it would be rude not to take my W124, now a passenger as I have had a few beers but it was lovely in the sunshine driving over (140 mile round trip).

Gratuitous shot:

Great picture. This car, and 0a's, reminds me of how much I miss mine. They really are under-stated and classy, to my eyes at least.

Hi All,

Reluctantly going to sell my W124 frown

Expecting another baby in October and what with the dogs we won't all fit in my wife's Volvo V40 or the Merc so I'm going to buy an estate.

It's been flawless in the 14 months I've owned it and don't want to sell it but I don't have space and would need the money to put towards my next car.

It was a little over the thread budget but that's mainly due to its low miles, and it's worth it for its V8 manualness!

Bork factor there for sure but a number of the known issues can be diy'd with time and patience (and YouTube!) and all these cars have their elements of risk.
Congratulations. A busy bank holiday for barge purchases. What engine?

Meanwhile I am under the bonnet of the E39 swearing (not too much) and dealing with rounded torx screws

Good luck with the sale, looks like a well cared for example.

That looks fantastic. Really only 61k? That must be the lowest mileage one in existence! I doubt you'll be seeking a buyer for long with that, even without aircon.

Thanks sparks/CDG. Yeah even without a/c it's nice wafting along with all the windows down and the sunroof open burning my bald head smile

Threadists.

How much money do you spend on cosmetics for your barges?

The 156 could do with the bodykit being taken off, fixed and refitted. Suspect that would be 400 to 600 quid.

It has a small dent that could do with being pulled, and could do with some minor paint around the edges of the boot lid. 150 to 200?

It has the window seal that needs fixed and the loose wing mirror. 200?

It could do with a machine polish to bring the paint back to life - 400 to 600?

Plus if one was being very picky, a smart repair on the passenger seat bolster - 200?

If i do all of them, im suddenly 1.5k into a two and a half grand car ... that i've not yet decided i love or know is solid. All are merely minor cosmetic issues independently - car looks good from 5 feet. It's just the detail.

Thoughts?
As others have mentioned, you need to make sure you will keep it before dealing with the none essentials.
Sort the tyres - they are an economical size and you dont need Cup Sport Super Slicks on it. Any mid range performance tyre will be fine.
Any other mechanical issues which will spoil your enjoyment? Brakes / cambelt / oil change / next MOT?
Once you’ve sorted those and had it a few months you will know if you want to spend the money on the cosmetics.
Some leather conditioner will help the seats along if they haven’t properly cracked through. Gliptone or similar.

Cheers. I am having 4 x Michelin PS4s fitted Thursday. I am now trying to sort a new stereo but the wiring is causing me a headache. Brakes, cambelt, waterpump, major service done in May. I wonder whether suspension could do with a refresh given it was off the road 7 years - drives well, suspension is a little soft/wallowy but they may all be like that. Need to get it onto an open road to see what it is like.

Lovely for mosying around London this morning though!

The answer is multiple values of the car, whilst telling yourself you’re adding value to the car, knowing you’ll be lucky to get the purchase price back.

That looks great. It is well priced as well. Tempting to buy and store as they are not making any more W124s!

Surely you would want the big 2.6 over a little 2 litre? And that colour is gorgeous. And that interior... cloud9

I like that a lot!
