One of those cars that'll always get a nod of approval the rare times I see one. Great looking things. smile

Remember looking at these about 10 years ago, would have been a good buy being they've doubled in value. It's definitely a design which has aged very well.

Lovely cars, considered one last year. Have improved with age like a fine wine

There were also apparently a small number of 830i produced with the period 3L V8, albeit never sold to customers
Sounds like an urban myth - never been a 3.0 V8, smallest in recent times has been the 3.5 V8 M62

M60B30 was a 3.0 V8, build between 1992 and circa '96. Went into the E32 and E38 as well as E34.

What you really want is an E31 with the S62B50 5.0 V8 from the E39 M5:

Another rare one is the Racing Dynamics K55, based on the 5.4L 850Ci with 400bhp. I seem to recall they also offered a K60 conversion of the 850CSi, but no idea if any were produced

These have aged well, remember it wasn't too long ago you could pick up an MOT'd example for just a couple of thousand on ebay.

The performance back in the day must have been great, shows how far we've come when 20 years later a Golf R or Focus RS will be quicker in all respects.

German wine actually ages at least as well as BMWs - a decent 1995 will have decades ahead of it!

+1.

There’s a guy up the road from me who has a 840ci, also a E38 740i.

The original 8 series for me is one of the coolest cars ever and a dream car for me.

I am quite surprised that the owner wants to sell after only having the car a few months and having spent a small fortune on it, not to mention the time and effort to bring it to this level. I suppose he paid a lot less than the selling price. Regardless, it looks to be a decent buy and well worth a punt.

Just under 300hp from 5 litres of V12!? Man, the game has come a long way...
I think you miss the point.....an engine of certain capacity will always make a certain amount of power, within reason. The ICE hasn't moved on. It is more efficient yes, but that is down to many other factors - smaller capacity with forced induction, less inertia, clever tech that reduces the fuel needed for a given scenario, improved aero etc etc.

300hp from 5L means stacks of effortless low down grunt, delivered without drama. BMW could have easily got 400/450hp from this, even more, but that would change the character of the car. This was a grand tourer, not a racer. 300hp from this is very different to 300hp in a Golf GTWHATEVER or Honda Civic Type UGLY.

Manufacturers nowadays have to quote high BHP figures to sell their performance cars. The BHP war was only really just starting out back then. Unless you were in the USA where people were buying 500HP motors in the 60s.

5L V12 is what's important here. And the body that is has been wrapped in.

Worthwhile addition to any collection, IMO. Money better in this than the bank.

I will always feel the love for the 8 series
But sometimes things are better admired from afar

My money no....
Outside of a lotto win and a 10 car garage, then perhaps
