Is this one of those Renault-engined banana cars?
I would assume that the A35 and CLA35 would have something Mercedes created themselves. You would certainly hope so for the prices. The use of the Renault 1.5dci engine though, I couldn't comment on although I assume will still feature in the base models of the A and CLA Class.

Don't forget, firstly, the 2 door 6 Series Coupe was based on the 4 Door 5 Series Saloon. They then made a 4 door version of the 2 door car that was based on the 4 door car!
Which is odd, when the GC are similar to the hatchback insignia and mondeo.that’s marketing for you
The front end off this on the A35 saloon would be a nice looking car. Just don't see the point in this. People keep going on about how evil cars are for the environment, while simultaneously allowing manufacturers to waste resources filling in every minute niche in the market.

These customers define their requirements very clearly: They expect exciting design from their vehicle alongside superior performance and inspiring handling characteristics. Urgh, what utter drivel. As soon as I see the words "lifestyle", "active" or "emotional" in a press release, I want to slit my wrists. I wonder what will be "insipring" about the handling characteristics of this car. Endless grip? Check. Lifeless steering? Almost certainly check. Dull, linear turbocharged engine? Oh yes. Inspiring my bottom.

And whilst we all agree in general, someone at Rover decided to ignore definitions back in the 60's to give us this coupe:

Always thought they looked like they have been sat on.

Totally agree - that is the worst kind of marketing BS and an awful statement to accompany the release of the car.

Yeah, that's why they call it a '4-door coupe' because it doesnt have 2-doors be its more stylish than a saloon. It's not difficult.Looks to my mind exactly like an Estate car. Coupe's have two doors and a sloping roof, Estate cars normally have 4 doors plus a large carrying area behind the seats, accessed by a door at the rear.
Say what you see and all that but it's certainly not a Coupe.
Here's a test for you. What is this?
Well done, yes very similar to an apple, same family even but it's a Pear! But if a car manufacturer labeled it as an 'Apple' for marketing purposes, would you still believe them?

Now you have the estate. Looks to my mind exactly like an Estate car.
Hoping for a CLA45S Estate. With a very advanced 4wd system (individual rear clutches each rear wheel and electronically controlles front lsd?) and still 3-400kg shy of 2 tonnes weight, the only dynamic 4wd estate possible for the future ever, since the rare rhd only Evo estate...

One thing I don’t get, they’ve already got CLA being a sportier 4-door coupe which has the same short wheelbase as a standard hatchback A-Class. Surely when they introduced the proper saloon version of A-Class, they should simply use the existing long wheelbase A-Class Saloon that’s already on the Chinese market. I mean less development cost than redesign and re-engineer the short wheelbase hatch. Also with 10cm extra length between the wheelbase, it definitely makes the saloon/estate look more normal as most hatchback based saloons/estates look out of proportion due to the short wheelbase inherent from the original hatchback model. Don’t need to think C-Segment saloon that’s based on long wheelbase of a hatchback is a Chinese speciality. The A3 Saloon in the European market has always been based on the long wheelbase A3 hatchback.

Languages change... by the original definition no current car is a "coupe" because a coupe was explicitly a shortened wheelbase version of an existing carriage. Coupe went through a phase of meaning a low two door car but that was neither its first nor last definition so there is no reason to consider it the "correct" one. Like it or not, "coupe" these days has broadened to mean a car with a nod towards sporty styling at the expense of some degree of practicality. Who knows what it'll mean tomorrow...
