That looks amazing for less than a hundred grand, I know its a huge amount of cash but I cant imagine its value is going to completely tank.

Sort of makes you realise how people mange to run then semi cost effectively.

Amazing how the lowest powered model is so fast, does anyone get in one and then "Hmm, this is a bit slow" ?

Would you mind sending it my way as well please Mike? Reached out to McGlasgow this morning but it would be good to have something to compare against.

Thanks

That is high praise indeed (although it would seem StuH doesn't agree!)

a 570 is a great car for £100k, wouldn't even make eye contact with an R8 when looking past one

I'm not convinced this is a new model at all.

There's some genuinely unbelievable finance deals knocking around for 570s's at the moment. And when I say unbelievable, I mean within £50 a month of what you can get some of the pricier hot hatches for, and with similar deposits.
Obviously I would not suggest to someone that they should remortgage to buy a car, but we've just had some really cheap quotes for one. Santander are offering 1.48% variable interest only for 2 years with no repayment penalties and about £1200 of fees up front. That means your £90k about £111/month.

Sell it after a year and all you have to find is the depreciation, which could well be £ yikes

One thing always puzzled me with the 540C after I read a road test in EVO mag. the 0-100 an 0-150 acceleration times were identical to the 570S. blisteringly quick in fact. So is the 540C really less powerful than the 570S? Also, both the 540 and 570 lost very little to the previous gen 650S....so the 540C is pound for pound the best value Mac I think.

Either way, if I was a rich man, either a 540C or 570S would get the nod from me at the £100K over any comparable sports/super-car.

My only experience is a passenger ride in a 570 GT and it was so unbelievably fast I find it a real struggle as to why people buy the faster ones (for the road). I am 6'7" and it was definitely tight though.

I had an extended test in a 570 Spider and a 720S last year. The Spider was incredibly fast but the 720 was otherworldly and scared the bejesus out of me. I'm sure I'd get used to it after a time but I never felt that I'd want the 720 over the 570 Spider.

That said, the 720 Spider is now available and looks gorgeous! smile

For less than £100k I can't think of much I'd rather have than a 540C/570S.
It would have to be in a lairy colour though, none of this plain grey.

I guess the real question here is how much does it cost to run a McLaren? I have read a few horror stories about service quality but that service costs at the dealership are also insane.

Service costs are very reasonable.

What defines reasonable?

I am sure these are 'cheap' to run, but a scary prospect out of warranty when they get older. See the MC12 that Hoovies Garage currently has on Youtube. Over $120k is warranty repair work, now on its second engine and third gearbox.

I should have qualified my point a little more I think, the screaming Ferrari engine sent shivers down your spine in tunnels and the McLaren is definitely not going to do that, it's very muted but it seems to work in this car for me, you are too busy trying to calibrate everything to worry about sound

I know I'm in danger of getting boring here but an MSO titanium exhaust makes a world of difference, it screams once the revs are up. It is the last piece of the jigsaw for a 570 (and I presume the 540 too)

What Justin isn’t mentioning is that you really have to have the warranty. So you’re talking £4K+ per year for that. It’s one of the reasons why McLarens, fantastic though they are, drop in value so quickly. That and that McLaren change their model lineup every 12 months

So don’t think for a minute, as some in this thread are suggesting, that they will be cheap to run. But if you can afford to drop the cash they are great cars

Rob on his usual Down on McL tirade wink

You are not talking £4k a year warranty - nowt per annum if you buy less than 3 years old - 570S is now 3 years old - not changed lineup yet unless I missed it smile

It would certainly be on my shortlist, along with a 911 Turbo, S if possible, and whatever the silly end of Mercedes Sports Cars has to offer at that price.
