What is the significance of the DOT code in this instance? Unless the OP knows what the DOT code of his 'original' tyres were, we'll still be none the wiser...
Only that if they were only a few months old it would add weight to the case that somewhere someone has abused them in the short time they've been around.

Exactly... I might have mentioned it already a few times.. OP seems to ignore this.

Just because they were 'new' tyres doesn't mean they will have a recent DOT. A 2 year, 6 week old DOT tyre is classed as new at Goodyear for example.

Much more likely that they have been "test driving" the radio than swapping tyres.

As previously mentioned do you know what the mileage was when it was dropped off? If not, can you work out the mileage, the MOT will have the mileage when that was done and that was only the day before?

Any CCTV at the garage that would show your car being removed?

You cannot have an interest in performance cars, without having an interest in its tyres. You can not have interest in those tyres without knowing their date codes.

As said, more likely you’ve had your car thrashed around by the workers. Happened to a friend of mine only last year. He’d just put new rears on his m140i and it went in for some big type of service. They had it a few days and when he got it back he thought it felt a little “lively” at the back; up in Scotland so roads are normally greasy. He stopped, checked the tyres to see if they’d excessively sprayed tyre-black on the tread…when he realised there was almost no tread left.

Went straight back to the garage, staff in the showroom weren’t having any of it “nope, not us” – when the workshop manager saw him losing the rag in the showroom, he was promptly given a full service refund, two new tyres and a day in a gold (yuck) M4 while the tyres were ordered in.

yes

Much more likely than them being nicked/swapped over, as being said by almost everyone, but also as mentioned seemingly being ignored by the OP.

Why not have a drive around the local area where the garage is / industrial estates, and see if you can find any fresh excessive tyre marks, as if that much rubber has gone then its got to be stuck on the road somewhere close. Then if it looks like its come from your car width , wheel base then see if there is any nearby cctv.

Good news is my brother is a barrister so they've done it to the wrong chap
I can't for the life of me think why, if your brother really is a barrister, you have asked for help on here. We are only amateur legal bods on here, whereas bro is the real life mccoy.

What does he say?

OP and his bro need to tread very carefully then.

They definitely need to keep their investigation low profile

You'd have to be a absolute loon to go from fresh tyres to bald tyres in a few days at a garage.
I've done 5 or 6 full trackdays, 2 evenings , ring laps, plenty of skidding, couple little burnouts and doughnuts, still have gotten over 12k from PS4 and 4mm tread left!!

Now I know different tyres can wear out differently of course - but I find it daft to think that a radio store would do that amount of wear.

Would honestly not surprise me if OP just didn't realise the tyres were getting low quickly.

An ex-colleague went through a couple of sets of tyres in a few weeks before one of the garages pointed out his suspension bushes were shot all round causing the tracking to be way off and scrubbing the full width of the tyres.

a lad at work took his XR2 in for an exhaust, when he picked it up the tyres were almost bald,
one of the monkeys in the garage had a similar XR2 with new tyres on suddenly,

just swapped the wheels over, "must have picked up the wrong wheels" etc...

Reminds me of my FIL car

When he first got it, he insisted i swap the spacesaver for a 'proper' wheel, so i sourced an alloy off Ebay

That alloy was happily sat under the boot carpet until last year, when he noticed that the alloy was now a bright orange space saver! Neither did it actually fit his car, i checked.

The car had been to a garage he'd never used before a few weeks earlier, so was clearly pinched there.

He wouldn't tell me where he took it (didn't want to make a fuss), so i had to buy another Ebay wheel !
