I’d like to complain in the strongest terms about this type of irresponsible online behaviour - these types of threads cause all sorts of unwarranted and fanciful thoughts and end up being extremely costly to a weak minded reader such as myself.
I find myself constantly be pulled back into a “project” .The sane part of me knows I may as well simply burn my money, it’s far more efficient and it keeps you warm. However, I know at some point, if I can’t show some self restraint, I’m going to get sucked in and my beautiful ‘73 RS (ish) will get somewhat “pimped up”.
It’s already going off to CG next week for some stage one suspension fettling.
The question is do I also mess with the engine - the car has a genuine ‘73 RS engine and as such, I’ve resisted messing with it in the past and obviously doing nothing with it has to be the most sensible thing to do !
Please tell me to leave it well alone !

If your RS has got an original matching numbers engine in it you clearly should take the original engine out to preserve it (and the value of your car)....and thus could justify the expense of getting something rather more fettled built for your RS Cheib said:

This is the beauty of my RS - it’s not a matching numbers car that I’d worry about driving; it’s built on a 83 SC chassis, but has a proper 73 RS engine and visually looks exactly like the real thing and as such, I never worry about driving it and use it when time permits. I’m having various things done to it at CG to “improve” the handling, but I think I’m kind of “stuck” engine wise as it seems wrong to mess with it; not that it isn’t a lovely engine, it is ; it’s a really free reving engine that sounds fabulous - I think I may have just answered my own question The alternate view is it’s already “not real” and as such, messing with the engine doesn’t really matter.
I guess I was hoping someone on here with better technical engineering knowledge than I,(that will be about everyone on here) could tell me what I could do to the engine to make it more, we’ll , “more”

Failing that, follow Rob’s and Yellow’s lead, and convert it into an all singing all dancing ST rep. 2.5 short strokes motor with high flutter by’s and big arches with humongous Fuchs and acres of rubber.

Try starting with a 100k£.
No point you having a small fan if you dont cream the engine,the small fan is only for drivers prepared to keep the fan spinning above 7000rpm!,so you could save a couple of grand there.
I am building a 901/20 spec engine at the moment for my 904 project,shift light will be at 8200.
Nothing wrong with a 2.7rs engine in a light car.
