RE: Porsche unveils 911 Speedster in New York
Discussion
I admire it without wanting it.
Nice looking car, but I have always found that open cars are not much fun to drive hard, so defeats the
purpose for me - I understand slower cars like a Morgan, and have an SL I bought 15 years ago new I use for touring. At legal speeds it is perfectly serene and not at all sporty.
For performance I have always preferred closed cars.
The original 356 Speedster was a stripper that the American importer, Max Hoffman requested as a low-cost entry model to Porsche.
The name had evolved to be a limited-edition very expensive runout model. To me, it has less function than the convertible, which has less function than the coupé.
Very few will be tracked or even driven much which is a shame.
I completely understand that it is perfectly legitimate to buy a car for appearance..more people do that than will admit it. There is nothing wrong with it at all.Sometimes it is nice just to own a beautiful object.

If I had the means to buy one I'd line up asap. If only to have _the_ ideal running gear for the Singer crew to play with in say 20 years time .But fully agree with your points. Somehow I think this is (beautifully) wrong. Gem of an engine that will never be repeated into body that can't make it work and has no raison d'être outside of styling.

How unfair to include the £10k watch as a freebie with the car.
Most GT3RS owners have to pay for the £10k watch as a condition of securing an allocation.
Out of 5 3RS owners (3 batch 1 and 2 batch 2) not a single one has had to buy the watch.....not sure where that rumour came from lol Most GT3RS owners have to pay for the £10k watch as a condition of securing an allocation.
