Options You Wish You'd Specced
Discussion
Bought my 430d GC used, searched for a while but could not find my ideal spec.
Would’ve liked HK, HUD and lane departure/blind spot warning.
Back in 2015 I had a hire car for a month whilst my old car was off the road. As I was paying for the hire I chose the cheapest car I could get which was a Corsa, 1.2 on a 64 plate.
Unusual spec, heated seats and steering wheel but no Bluetooth which I could’ve done with. Did try the heated wheel but considering it was summer time, not a pleasant experience!

Interesting how many people are saying Sunroof.
Of the many cars i've had with a Sunroof i bet i've opened it less than 10 times & only opened the blind about the same number (thus meaning it had no use).
As for a Pano roof, in the wife's Q5 it creaked for the whole 4yrs we had the car & i hated it for that (was a common issue on all Audi's with a Pano roof).
Pano's seem to cause problems on Merc's & MINI's too. I still like them, though.Of the many cars i've had with a Sunroof i bet i've opened it less than 10 times & only opened the blind about the same number (thus meaning it had no use).

At the end of the day I'm living with it as the original owner on mine specced ivory leather & an unusual white rooflining which makes it a bit less dark. And he also ordered a long list of other toys to sugar the pill;
He ordered the 5.5 V8 which comes with air suspension, direct steering, intelligent lighting system, sports brakes, parktronic, memory pack (seats mirrors, steering column), powered tailgate, premium audio, storage pack, sun pack, attention assist, black ash, luxury climate control, mirror pack, ambient lighting, column gear change & paddles.
He then added tanzanite blue metallic, wood/leather steering wheel, privacy glass, COMAND, MMI, cooled seats, driving assist pack (inc distronic, blind spot assist & lane assist), night vision, tyre pressure monitor, reversing camera & telephone pre-wire.
Th car was a few months too early for bluetooth music streaming (I have to use a cable which is enough of a faff to stop me doing it) so about the only thing other than a sunroof which I would have liked would have been DAB and/or Harmon Kardon.
But I'm not grumbling.

I buy second hand cars for myself and have a policy of never having fewer options on the latest car than the previous one.
Today, that brings me up to almost fully specced Audi A6 level - missing speed limit display.
The original owner of my current car fully specced the car (except ceramic brakes) and spent thousands on the extras - except speed limit display - why? It was a £250 option! (Against a backdrop of 000’s spent on options that include for example self closing doors).
Is there is an aversion to this option like, for example, pan roofs or over sized wheels?

Bought my XF new, so was able to spec everything I wanted.
But in true first world fashion, I wish I'd spec'd the heated rear seats. At the time I ordered, both kids were in car seats so it just didn't cross my mind. A year into ownership, one is out of the seat, and the other will shortly follow, so any journey in the winter starts with
"Daaaaaad, my seat is cold"
I tell them it's character building, but I'd happily have spent the £300 to avoid the moans!

A £20 Bluetooth dongle hooked into the aux input (probably in your glovebox, depending on which Mercedes you have) gives wireless music streaming. It's what I use in the S211 and W221 - works perfectly.longblackcoat said:

Nothing, but then I'm a man of simple needs:
Auto
Aircon
Cruise
And that'll do me. Of course, I assume that everything comes with electric windows, central locking and all that shizzle dizzle these days.
I couldn't care less about ICE – had all sorts and only ever use the radio.
Leather – had it on some cars, not had it on others and not fussed either way. Likewise heated/cooled/electric seats: Had them on several cars and never used them. Sunroof: Had one on my last car and never opened it.
Etc. etc...

Nothing on the Touareg that I wish it had. I think pretty much the only thing you can get that it doesn't are electric seats. Useful to have but not a deal breaker, I'm the only one who drives it. Having bought it to do a 60 mile/day commute and now working from home, I wish I hadn't bought it though. That's a different thread entirely.
M135 - wish it had heated seats, bluetooth music and the extended nav screen. Apart from that, I really liked it.
Screen upgrade is relatively simple, just a few screws and a bit of coding. Bluetooth streaming can be coded in too (as long as you have the basic bluetooth) - depending where you are I can always help/do the coding.M135 - wish it had heated seats, bluetooth music and the extended nav screen.
