And if you want something pretty and beautiful, then you need look no further than this.

I knew a guy that collected Facel Vegas a year or two ago. Beautiful machines, in and out.

And a personal fav. Not pretty, but completely amazing looking.

With you there, someone posted pics of a brown one with some aftermarket wheels and it looked amazing.

not conventionally pretty, very much of its time but for me its the epitome of proper luxury meeting seventies styling, it looks like something from Thunderbirds, which i know was sixties but it was futuristic and its near enough. Would be ace to get one modernised, some modern power, some sympathetic styling tweaks.

Another vote for the original CLS, know its a very Marmite car but I love how they look, familiarity and it being a bit of an old Merc dulls it somewhat but I remember being flabbergasted when it came out, only the slightly sad eyed front lets it down.

I know this won't be universally approved, but I always thought my Vectra GSi was a handsome machine. Much better in 4 door saloon than the hatch version. One of the 2 or 3 cars I wish I had never sold.

Ferrari didn't put it into production, but if they had, I'd have to say the Pinin.

It's going in anyway. smile

This the only one known to exist, it is fully working, with a flat V12.

Another vote for the basic (non GTA, pre facelift) Alfa 156. and it also formed one of the best looking estate cars(I know, not a saloon!)

The e39 is probably an excellent car. And it looks no worse today than when new. But the problem is. It just looked boring and dull when new. It’s hardly automotive art is it.

And unless you are at a location owned by BMW. You’d be hard pressed to find pictures of a regular e39 framed and being displayed on the wall to others.

Or put it another way. If this was best looking sports car or super car. How many would have lines similar to an e39? None, because it’s just a rather dull uninteresting thing to look at. It has no flare, no visual excitement. And surely if you are talking best looking, then these are likely important properties.

How it drives or how fast it goes have absolutely no bearing on best looking.
The E39 M5 was so much better looking that a cooking 5 series. the dish of the alloys, the naughty four exhausts before every car got them, and the fact that as a kid it had a shocking 400bhp

I had an avus blue one pinned on my wall as a kid. similar to Harris's e28 m5 video, the e39 did the same to me

1980's Mercs combine grace and functionality, in my opinion:

Absolute classic. Bruno Sacco produced so many iconic designs.

The worst looking BMW 5 series ever made, perhaps! Bloated and tubby, but also generic!
So generic that it's not a 5-series laugh

Always liked the original CLS

I'm glad someone said that as I think the original CLS is quite a special looking car, they don't seem to have captured the look of the original in any of the later versions sadly. I am a bit biased but the looks were part of the appeal.
