Certainly an interesting, quirky design yes, but beautiful? Not in my opinion. The short stubby back end seem to go against the long sweeping curves on the side.

I would class the design as likeable, but in a weird/ugly sort of way, the same as my 6 series.
I always saw the C6 as what Peugeot designers thought a big Citroen should look like rather than what one actually should look like.
Not surprising it has the lines it has.

Agreed on all accounts, especially the Peugeots. They have a good record of handsome saloons.

Always felt the 405 Mi16 was one of the best.

yes The 405 may win it for me, though the XJ6 must be in the running.

Old Alfas such as those posted above look positively ugly to me, though the 156/9 are great looking cars.

Christ there has been some st posted on this thread, mostly from 300bhp/tonne, but that is no surprise.

We all know that this is the best looking saloon of all time. I will hear or read no argument. Anyone who disagrees is just wrong.

hehe
1. it's a hatchback
2. I know, but it should be
3. Everybody knows the Van den plas was a pretender. The Equipe was the pinnacle of Allegrosity, from a happier time when rolling a turd in glitter by fitting lairy stripes and tin foil wheels was believed enough to save a sinking ship.

This looked sooo good ten years ago but suddenly doesn't look as good as it did! Better than a 156 though?
Christ, I had my end of year 11 'ball' there years ago. What memories.

The XM is the odd one out there.

I'm a huge Alfa Romeo fan and I love the new Giulia and will own one at some stage (when they are a bit cheaper/any known faults become, erm, known) but I saw one the other day and couldn't help but think the body looks like a Mazda or something non-Alfa but has the AR shield grille on it..

The same could not be said of the 156 or 159. Or even 166.

I think the original pre-facelift 156 is the best. 159 was so good though they didn't need to facelift it!

The 159 nailed it. The Giulia is a bit of a jelly mould

1. I know.
2. Yes it should be.
3. My Allegro knowledge isn't that great. They aimed high with this car though, it competed with the mighty Morris Marina / Ital. Which did come in 4 door saloon flavour. Unfortunately.

Another vote for the 156 from me. Not the GTA version though, the body kit ruins them in my eyes. The Zender kit was much better suited to it.

The Xedos series was quite stylish as well, apart from the over-small grille.

I remember when the new 6 had just been released, Lady H was collecting her MX5 from the service department and this striking metallic blue saloon was sitting in the showroom and I was thinking "that looks like good". Over-exposure has since lessened its impact but I think it still looks good.

What did for the Xedos 6 was the concurrent Hyundai Lantra, marketed as the "curvy car" and a clone looks wise right down to the tiny grille. Not an ideal situation for Mazda's Lexus line/ 3 series rival.

I dare say my favourite has been posted, although it could be 1 of 10 or so. Impossible to choose. Here's some that I think deserve a posting; anyway:

There's more of course, I struggled to find a complimentary shot (somewhat ironic yes) of a Prisma, for one

What was this style of saloon called? From my childhood classic car mags I think it was Italian inspired, but we seem to have gone mad for it in this country for a period.

Nothing like a clone of the Mazda, possibly a caricature if you squint.

The Lantra was an utterly horrific heap to drive though, one of the worst cars I've driven.

I always thought Saab’s swan song was a nice looker. Never driven one so don’t care about how it drives, just how it looks

I think Bentley got it just right when they facelifted it to 4 round headlights- timeless.
Yup, a stark contrast to what they are putting out today, my vote is definitely to one of these two.
