So many reasons to love brands.

As a driver....

-The blind entry into Paddock Hill bend
-Several possible braking points and lines into Paddock Hill bend
-Paddock Hill bend
-The compression after Paddock Hill bend

And that's just one corner!

As a spectator:

-The topography gives such a good view of the track (well Indy circuit anyway) from grandstands or just lining the track
-The trees give a nice place with some shade to have a family picnic and still watching the racing at close quarters
-Being get really close to the cars and track
-The view of Paddock Hill bend above you from the side of the track
-Walking over the bridge at clearway to feel the air being pushed up by cars downforce
-Lovely walk through woods to the GP circuit interrupted by screaming engines and tyres screeching
-Being able to park your car on grass banking to watch the action

My first memory of Brands is seeing rallycross in the 80s.

Brands GP is indeed fantastic and I only really consider the 2+ hour drive if the event is using the GP loop.

However, it's not as good as it was. The changes to the spectator pathway to bypass Stirlings has really affected the viewing in that area. While the food is better, as a building the Kentagon is still overdue an appointment with a bulldozer.

Also, they only use the GP circuit for the major events so WHY are the grandstands all empty and locked up. Open them up to the public FFS.

If you think DTM on the Indy is bad, you should've been there when Champ Car visited. The pit stop windows turned it into a fuel economy run. Such a wasted opportunity...
Yes, the Champ Car event was possibly the worst race I've ever attended. Huge crowd, lovely day, amazing looking, smelling and sounding cars................and zero excitement on track. Awful. Mind you you'd have to be pretty brave to dive up the inside at Paddock in a Champ Car...
