Cheers - So what will Alfa do? Or will Ferrari continue to supply to AR but not Maserati...?

Interesting that I (and doubtless many others on here) are inclined to hoot with laughter at the idea that future Maseratis will use the same platform and engines as Alfa Romeo and very possibly Chrysler, rendering it an exercise in trim and badge engineering, and yet Volkswagen/Audi/Porsche have made an absolute roaring success of doing exactly that with many of their core models.

I suppose the difference is that almost all the VAG models range from competent to excellent, whereas everything FCA will make will most probably range from poor to OK hehe

Can't wait for the day when we can finally choose between a Merc, a BMW, an Audi or a VW.

Largest automakers in 2017 by number of vehicles produced:

Toyota
VAG
Hyundai/Kia
GM
Ford
Nissan
Honda
FCA
Renault
PSA
Suzuki
SAIC
Daimler
BMW
Geely

I think it'll be a while before Daimler/BMW/VAG are the only makers!

I can see Maserati veering sharply toward electric propulsion as a result of this. Possibly a very wise move.

"Italian luxury carmaker Maserati has announced that its lineup of vehicles will never go all-electric."

"Maserati shipments were down 41 percent, and net revenue fell 38 percent in the first three months. That's on top of a 28 percent drop in sales in 2018."

"Maserati will have a full suite of hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles by the end of 2022 but has not released what form of electrification each model will get. Maserati will never go all electric. "This is a brand that needs combustion engines. It needs that raw emotion," Gardner said"

TBH FCA is fooked from an emissions POV which is why they are paying tesla $2bn to help out and avoid fines.

I'm assuming they will use other available FCA engines in a hybrid setup from 21/22 on

How? I'm assuming a majority of their cars in Europe are not sold in Italy.

FCA's biggest market is the USA, which demands large displacement engines.

The EU is punishing FCA for providing it's largest market with what it wants.

FCA sales in USA wont count towards EU emissions fines

Why should the EU give a st what USA does or doesn't over how emissions impacts the health and well being of European citizens?

Because the EU's economy is crumbling and it's shooting itself in the foot?

Hyperbole much? Climate change will happen no matter how much the Eu wants to tax it's citizens into the dirt.
