The first and second gen captured and executed the idea perfectly.
But the latter models including this one are hideous. MINI have totally lost the plot now. They need to sack the designer or accountants and re-think their concept again.

I run a JCW first gen R53 with full Recaro seats and without doubt it is by far the most captivating car to drive out of the R56 and the current monstrosity they call a MINI.

Doubt it. M135i has 6 cylinders and rear wheel drive.
Mini has 4 cylinders and is transversely mounted.
However there could be a hot 2 series tourer which these minis are based upon.
Next M135 is four wheel drive, with a four pot using a MINI chassis (normal models will now be FWD). Press leaks state just under 310bhp, so this looks like a snake peak of the underpinnings of the next M135.

These will be bloody expensive - a boggo Cooper Countryman with very few options in my local dealer was just under £32k.

Imagine paying £35k+ for a brand new M135i and having the same engine as a Mini.

Or paying over £50k+ for the current 630i with the same basic engine! yikes

You do see plenty of them out on the road(granted not all JCW), so they certainly sell well and have their fans for sure.

The new M135i drivetrain has been available for a while in the X2 M35i.

True, an unfortunate victim of downsizing. its not uncommon though - imagine paying 130k for an AMG GT with the same engine as a 65k C63

While I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment, aiui, BMW's hand was forced by pedestrian safety regs, which forced them to raise the bonnet line, which forced them to raise the waistline & now look at them. They're Mini in much the same way as Geoff Capes is a ballet dancer.

I've never thought of that comparison and that is a massive price swing for sure!

My missus has the Cooper S Countryman variant (latest shape), with the Mini Yours pack on it and some tastefully specced bits.

It has completely shocked me. It's a great motor to drive, and great to be in. The steering completely defies physics in my opinion, feels very good.

This JCW Countryman is going to be ... bananas.

F56? In which case the chassis, without run flats, feels like it can cope with a lot more.

Maybe it is the fact that I only have Michelin Primacy non run flats on my F56 Cooper S(instead of pilot sports or similar)...but Imo the standard car struggles to get the 189bhp it already has down on the road. I wouldn't want any more power because it would just be an unruly nightmare for me.

If running 300bhp then it needs either 4wd or a very decent LSD if it is sticking with FWD.

I knew that, I just digressed off talking about the F56 3dr Mini and I wondered if the upcoming GP will be a nightmare getting the power down if its FWD with 300bhp that's all. smile
