Executive airport style transport. 7 series or merc mini bus. They can read and have a drink. Cost you what, £250? Depending on where in Yorkshire.

As cheap as the train

You know, you don’t actually have to travel first class.

Scum class ain’t too bad. Most passengers do manage to shower most days and the winter has killed off 32% of all feral kids so you can slum it and save a few bob.

I see regular, awful driving on the M62 and M6 and I think 'Why are they awful drivers?'

People st themselves before they have even got in the car.

Google maps.
Move into the left lane when you can.
Take a turn off when you have to.

If they avoid travelling at peak times (so that normal drivers can avoid them) what is the big deal?

There are fewer hazards and fewer manoeuvres to perform when doing 70mph up a motorway than 30mph around London.

I reckon the wife has said no buses, no planes and certainly not going in the mini!

Hmm. Yes, first world problem.

Wife is already pissed that I have effectively abandoned her to make her way up, so was trying to make it as comfortable as possible.

Three in the car, up to a big family wedding, and knowing my family, that will more than a Mini's worth of bags, hats, shoes, people.

Actually, maybe train is the answer,

Mind you, £270 for first class!

David
For wedding ? You staying there for a week either side?
Or two the days?
A few days all of there cloths should fit in one suitcase
If they need more tell them not to take 7 changes of clothes each

Hmmm....it's usually more than that to rent those cars, never mind with a driver, and typically the daily hire rates are based on 100 miles.

This is laughable. My girlfriend regular drives between the south and north/Scotland inner 3 cyl Peugeot 208. It has cruise and comfy seats and can do 70.
Is she old enough to have a 23yr old daughter?

Some people can do this stuff without a second thought, especially if doing it regularly. I don't think anyone should be pushed to do journeys they don't want to. After all, if absolutely anything goes wrong it'll be the OPs fault as he made her do it!

Really? I do leicester to Heathrow regularly. Charged £150 each way, the driver has had a 7 series and an A8 and now a model s.

Mine to say Leeds is probably another £100. So surely I’m not a million miles off the mark?

I cycle from Manchester to London in one day, every year. If you think a MINI isn't ideal, try a road bike saddle and factor in your legs are the only propulsion wink
It’s all downhill though. Going from London back up would be harder hehe

He does though. He’s got a diesel Porsche and might buy a car specifically for the journey you know

IF this is real it’s fking ridiculous. I regularly travel Germany-UK in one of the early “new” Minis in an evening, often with a fair amount of stuff. No problem at all, eats miles, shuns petrol. OP do you do the cooking, washing up, cleaning, housework, ironing etc? And she has a Porsche Cayenne? Mrs OP needs a good talking to.

Edit to add: if your profile is to be believed then insure the daughter on the Aston instead. It’s a hatchback so practical.

Fly?
Heathrow > Leeds + hire car. 2-3 services a day.

What's wrong with trains? It's a nice service (via Leeds or York). Book the quiet carriage.

Depending where in North Yorks, you could stop at York (1hr 50 from KX) and pick up a hire car. Lots of A roads and quite low stress driving (vs, say the M25)

Leicester is smack in the middle between Leeds and Heathrow, so if it's per mile it'd be £300. Having said that, is your guy picking someone else up, or is that price for him driving back 'empty'? If empty, that's bordering on hardly making sense for the time and mileage.

This is ridiculous. I did north London to Edinburgh and back in a day, regularly driven Glasgow to Wembley, and am currently regularly driving from Essex to Rotherham to see my mum as she has cancer, hell even she drives Yorkshire to Potters Bar and she's 81!

Mrs Custard regularly drives from Cambridge to Baildon and back on the same day.

Tell her to man the fk up.

Break the journey up. Drive for an hour. Stop for a Costa. Keep doing that till she gets there.

This is nearly as pathetic as my mates Mrs who wont drive on her own or with the kids to somewhere she's never been before.

I think we've reached peak evolution and are going backwards.
